hey all

i have a really odd question to ask but i need to know if the wire from the distributor that tells the engine to fire i have no idea what its called), i need to know if that wire comes from a magnetic source???? odd i know i dont even know why but i have been told to ask cause the hubby is doing something to the car i have no idea what apparently its a surprise lol. my car is a 95 eg civic hatch man with the d15b7 efi engine.

thanks in advance

just thought id also mention that i called my local honda dealer and spoke to the mechanics and workshop there and they have absolutely no idea!!!

Your refering to the ignition leads i belive

Well, technically, anywire with a changing current will induce a magnetic field around it.

http://home.austin.rr.com/teslafun/Induction.htm

And leads constantly change current (they go from 0 to 10 back to 0 [those number were made up])

Thus will induce magnetic field. But its not like its gonna suck your keys toward it.

This is how a timing light works
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timing_light

Self-contained units used to time automotive engines have an inductive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_induction) pickup that clamps around the proper spark plug (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spark_plug) wire and serves as the trigger for the strobe.

The inductive pick up, picks up the inducemagnetic field by the wire.

I hope this makes sense

the TDC sensor in the Distributor pulses and then the computer begins fireing the ignition system.

the sensor is a magnetic type inductor. a metal spoke passes a wire wound coil ( TDC sensor ) and creates an AC voltage pulse, the ecu reads this as a frequency when the engine is running.

the distrubutor has 2 more sensors. CYP, and CKP
