hey everyone

yesterday i gave my car a service and i cant seem to get the oil filter off as it is in a very awkward position, there isn't enough room to turn the do hicky that you use to remove the filters

i just need to know how you guys remove them so i dont have to take it to the mechanics everytime i need it changed.

get a proper tool - either a actual oil filter gripper ( like a circle with a handle on it) or a adaptor for your ratchet.
Or let teh engine cool down , and then use your hands to slowly rotate it off from above the engine bay( reach down under the inlet manifold , from the battery side)

its easy dude.... just reach in from the top with ur hand and twist it off.... if u can't get a good grip... just use a rag or something... i do it myself every time

If I cant undo it from the top, I jack the car up and access it from underneath the car. You have more room there.

Or get a Honda oil filter tool. It's a cap with a hex nut on it so you can use your ratchet with an extension to loosen the filter.

make sure the car is cold, as metal expands, and it will be alot harder to get off... and the hot oil will burn you lol, then you should be able to undo it with just ur hand. i did mine a couldpe of days ago and got it fine

when you get it off the first time, put it on by hand and hand tighten it, as long as there is a seal, thats all that matter, and this way you can take it off by hand the next time.

make sure you take the car for a drive after you change the oil and finter, then come back and check for leaks from the filter and the sump plug

Make sure to check that the seal from the old oil filter is not still attached to the engine. Easy thing to forget but alot of people still do it

Just jam a large screwdriver in it and force it off, or take the car to a mech shop and get them to remove it. Just make sure you dont jam the screwdriver into the threading where the filter is attached

The first one is the one I use the most... About $30 normally, comes in Silver or Black

No... Change the oil when it's fairly hot so it flows out easier...

When you put the new filter on make sure you put a bit of oil on the rubber seal and hand tighten it and then a small bit with a filter tool

negetive on using the tool for retightening. hand tight is just perfect. Had a guy at work tighten it with the tool and it was a battle trying to take it off.

If it was hand tightened then you should be able to twist it off by hand....

I can't get to it from the top because I'm too short, so always jack the car up...

I also have on of those cap type oil filter tools and its hard having enough space to actually turn it...because it's a bit of a tight fit....

Just jack it up and try and untwist it by hand...if you can't do it by hand it means they tightened it too much.

NO! Don't tighten it with the tool. You put the filter on til finger tight (using only your finger times to tighten), and then turn another 1/4 turn using your whole hand gripping the filter.

100% correct, do not even think about using the tool on it, thats why its got a RUBBER gasket :)

force is not needed

YES! If your hands are covered in dirt and oil you will find it near impossible to tighten it by hand...

You don't make it super uber tight but just a bit tight... like maybe 1/4 turn

Absolutely nothing wrong with using a tool as long as you know how to use it
