Hey guys, recently i have replaced the pads on my drum brakes because they were quealing alot, and i'm still getting the squeaking noise. Any suggestions on what it could be and how to solve the problem?

something stuck in the drum itself IE rock etc ?
Does it happen when you APPLY the brakes or all the time ?
you may need to properly bed in the drums ( a few hard brake stops from 60 or so , with a small drive to cool brakes down too)

id say worn springs inside the drum

you can take the drum off. ( with the car safely raised in the air. )

and hose off all the brake dust in the drum and shoe area, then use compressed air only if no dust is evident to clean it all up. you can also use brake cleaner.

you may need to deglase the drum surface with emery paper, you can also rough'n up the shoe surface.

also make sure the drums are adjusted corectly.

FEOI , correct term would be brake shoes.

Ok it doesnt squeak all the time, only when i'm about to come to a stop, going <1kph or when when i'm parking where i got the brakes semi pushed in, creeping forward or back. Like i be going 60kph then brake, i get no sqeaking till the very end where i'm about to stop.

My Drum brakes had a Sqeaking sound when I released the brake. Turned out it was dirty drums and cylinder was leaking. So I changed brake shoes and cylinder and gave a good clean. No more sqeaking for me!

You wouldn't exactly be using Adios or Globe's for brakes now would you...

your drums may need to be remachined.like when front discs are machined when fitting pads etc.over time the inside drum surface distorts and can make squeaking and poor braking.if there is a 'lip' on the edge of the inside surface,u most likely need them machined

HAHAHAHAHHA

But to the OP if you are not sure GET IT CHECKED BY A PROFESSIONAL!.

It's your brakes FFS not something that you want to go wrong all of a sudden.

how do you know it's ur drums thats making the noise?

brake shoes are rearly semi metalic and pressure they apply is quite low compared to piston calipers.

shet are there EG's with rear drums?

Noise might be else where.

if ur unsure,u can test wether its your drums making the noise or not by slowly applying the handbrake while your driving....effectively only applying the rear brakes....so then if the squeak is there,u know its the drums

A while ago I changed my rear brake shoes and had a REALLY hard time putting it all back together because of the god damn springs. I ended up rushing it because it began to get dark and by the time i was on the second drum it was like completely dark. After i finally got it all back together i double checked it and realized one of the springs was put on back to front but I cbf'd doing anything about it because I had just went through absolute hell to get them back on and I was not going to do it all over again. I didnt even end up adjusting the brakes.
The next day I took it to Aussie Brakes Specialists (ABS), and they adjusted them for $50, but I still had the squeaking noise. I opened up the drum and the spring was still back to front so a couple days later I took it back and they fixed it for free for me and i haven't had the squeeking there since.
Oh and I'm pretty sure that the difference between shoes squeaking and pads squeaking is distinguishable. I'm pretty sure that pads have a high pitch squeak and that shoes have a more hollow squeak.
