Having driven both 4th and 5th gen Preludes with H22A, the biggest factor I notice was how smooth they are in 5th Gen and how relatively coarse they are in a 4th Gen.

Driven a few examples of both.
I realise there is like a 5kw difference between the 2 so the engines aren't identical
But wondering is the extra smoothness from a 5th gen directly from a smoother engine or just the car "hides" it better?

well the 4th gen is lighter, this could add to the sound deadening effect.

also the gears in the 4th gen are shorter, dunno if this would add any roughness tho. could just be because the 5th gen is newer

also, this mite sound silly but what kinda gear knobs did they have on? coz a heavier knob also adds to a silkier feeling shift.

LOl......i think the 5th gen has been more refined in little bits and peices which adds to the overall smoothness of the ride....
