I'm pretty sure my synchros are busted, my gearbox crunch from 2nd-3rd-4th at the moment, not bad considerinf the fact that it only took me one year to destroy them (had the gearbox rebuilt a year ago) any ideas on the cost of replacing them or anythign else it could be ?

Its only been a year? Either your fluid or your clutch isn't disengaging properly.

Or you can't drive :)

it would also be the collors and posibliy the gears also, the gears will be ok ( constant mesh ) but the gear are part or the synchro set and have the teeth on em as well, but you will never know how much it will cost as you would have to dismantel the box and inspect all the parts for damage. bent shafts will also cause crunching..

got it changed by the mechanic the other day and it's still crunching,
the clutch being ****ed might make more sense seeing as i don't go very easy on it.

usually it's changing at high revs, so 8k from second to third or thrid to fourth and it goes crunch.

Crunch or feels like its catching?

it crunches and if i change really slowly it doesn't crunch.

edit: there isn't really any extra resistance going into gear it just makes a nasty sound

Which one is worse?

crunch!

If its just 'catching' then your synchros are on the way out (early signs) or your oil is too thick. Sometimes you can rectify it by using a thinner grade oil.

I believe (you might want to check) that if your gearbox is a B-series, then gears 1-2-3 is one syncho and 4-5 is another synchro

so if it crunches between 3-4 but not to 5 then the probability of it being clutch operation is higher such as the thrust bearing or just a wearing clutch.
Also the gear box oil as others have suggested.

my car crunches from 3rd to 4th :S Only when driving fast and shifting quick, which i guess is not a good sign :/
