Hey, everyone, I installed the Toda header for my DC5R today, and taste it when it done, i and my friend feel its sound of Vtec kick in just gone, even push it to over 7000rpm, just can hear its catback noise. Is it normal? sorry for my such stupid Q's~Hope someone can give me some opinion, thx~

i have noticed that too - my friend owns a dc5R - toda headers - toda cams - and a RM01A catback.. his v-tec doesn't seem to be loud, but i think its like that if u compare the K series and the B series maybe cause its a different block design?

its the design of the engine ~there inst supposed to be a massive BAAAAA when vtec engages.
On the older B series motors there is a more noticeable booooooBAAAAAAA.

ive got my CAI just behind the front bar and its quiter than it was short ram.. :(
reason to this i think is the tube is longer and further for the air flow to travel and echo ..but in short ram mode it was load as hell!!
thats the benefit of a 2 piece CAI ...take off the 2nd short tube and use as short ram! :p

The reason you don't hear the vtec crossover point in a K series when you installed your headers is because the sound of the exhaust flow is much louder than the sound of your induction roar using the stock airbox. Just put on a louder intake and you'll hear it again.

oic, thanks for ur answer, i think u are right, coz i am using Mugen airbox atm, and it is very similar as stock box's design, may exahaust sound louder than the induction roar's voice.

x2
My mate has a full toda exhaust system and a gruppeM intake on his jdm dc5r. I nearly wet myself the first time i heard it hit vtec while in the passenger seat :P

Ben is comparing the sound difference between the B and the K in his prior post.
B's all sound "similar" - age of a specific engine doesnt mean VTEC will be louder or quieter than the same motor give or take a few thousand kms.

VTEC is all in the mind. Think of the cat being strangled & you will have VTEC

i found that a proper CAI was better than SRI for sound in my teg
it was deep like wrx than it screamed its head off =)
yeh my 16A2 is pretty clear crossover.. lol umm h22a my friends one is completely stock can't hear much.. maybe needs intake but yeh.. my CAI sounds cute.!!

from what i have found from driving allot of different model hondas...
b18c7 (teg R) > b18c5 (teg vtir) > b16a (EM1, del sol) > K20 (dc5) > modded h22 > modded k24 > h22 > d vtec > stock k24 > i-vtec and e-vtec (the fuel saving vtec, not racing vtec)
from most distinct difference for vtec crossover noise
the K motors are deffinatly screamier but have a smoother crossover, but the B motors have a more punch in vtec
the b16 is pretty screamy but lacks low end
the h22 i drove i could hardly notice it at all, and it was a very docile motor, but it had alot more torque and of course was bigger
i-vtec and e-vtec are designed for fuel saving so they not really noisy at all, and unless u got a turbo on a D series motor they are more designed at getting u to work/church and not for racing lol

FYI a vtir DC2 has a b18c2 engine.
The b18c5 is the USDM variant of the Integra type R engine.

Maybe your engine is about to blow up.
