View Full Version : Lights dim with bass hits???

I have a alpine 12" type X with a mrd-m1005 amp and i can barely hear it why is that?
when the head lights are on the lights dim with each bass note that it hits, it barely shakes my rear view...i got a honda civic 06/07 i got 4 gauge wiring a ported box profiessionally installed and now ive been told i should get a capacitor or a new battery what the hell should i do!?


(this is a question on behalf of my cousin not me, but still is very important, cheers)

is the amp professionally installed? if so, check your alternator... or even upgrade your alternator, capacitor might also help.. but changing the battery wont do much since it is pretty new anyway..

btw, the amp is a 500w RMS and the sub you're trying to use is 1000w RMS from memory... that is just not good enough, both for the amp and the sub itself

I'd say improve your amp and battery ground/earth. One or two runs from factory may be good enough for a small amp but the M1005 isn't a small amp.

I've got 2 amps on my car at the moment and the only time the lights dim is when I've got the system at a volume in which I can't stand. I'm still using a standard battery but i've just upgraded my earthing. Factory was a single 8awg, I've changed that to a run of 0awg as well as another run of 0awg split into four 4awg runs.

A new battery is probably better value for money than a capacitor.

Try upgrading the earths first before spending heaps on a capacitor or battery.

A dual 4 ohm Type X, parallelled down to 2ohms is a good match with the M1005.

I think you're thinking about the M605
# 600W x 1 RMS [2Ω @ 14.4V 1% THD]
# 400W x 1 RMS [4Ω @ 14.4V 1% THD]

The problem is power storage and delivery. Not charging.

As a general rule of thumb, we install a decent deep cycle / fast discharging battery (e.g. Optima) and earthing kit on most of the cars we do here and that solves the problem. :)

No the problem is power supply and delivery. But yes; one possible solution is the battery and earthing upgrade. :D

upgrade grounding and if that doesnt work get a bigger battery, like what Fr3aKi3 said, a battery is more value for money than a capacitor

a cap is alrite as well cause u can always reuse it on every car unlike a battery.
cheap capacitors are like $80 on ebay or the better ones for about $400..

The battery you use must be able to cope with the rate of discharge. If you can't afford an odyssey or optima (which are very good), you can go for a battery that uses a calcium-lead grid.

both!!! if you only change the battery it won't last long for your problem. if only get a capacitor which is ok for now but is good way to get both and sell off the old battery which is sure can solve the problem.

I would sujest a cap there much more reliable and then you know that you wont be overdrawing from the battery it will be saved up in the cap

yes get a capacitor

i believe its 0.5farad per 500Watts.. guessing from memory

all of your electrical's run off you alternator when the motor is running so a new battery is pointless unless you listen with the engine off. if so, use deep cycle.

Remember that caps only store power where as batteries generate it via a chemical reaction when something is placed between the terminals (light a light bulb). You can always use a combination of both if the budget stretches. :)
