See if both your ED and DA9 alternator have the same part number?

you may want to check if they mount the same and check the size of the pulley and how many grooves are visible on each pulley and see if they are the same.

remember that alternators produce different regulator amps e.g. for a DA9 1990-93 - 1.8L - 1834cc, All - wo/"Load Response" Reg. 65amp

where the ED civic 88-91 1.5L are 60amps.

they are also available in different manufactures brand e.g. Nippon Denso, Mitsubishi & Bosch.

they may all look the same but the coil / regulator inside is what differs on how much battery power/current you car should consume or handle.

check this link out - good stuff for identifying different types of alternators for any cars! including honda's.
