Just asking whether its worthwhile swapping from Auto to Manual on an eg civic hatch.. ANy ideas of headaches involved, how hard is it? ANy idea on the cost $$ of parts, plus labour. I was thinking of doing the swap and dropping in like a b16 etc. n make it a project car.. Any advice or other members experience appreciated. Thanks

is your EG a carby at the moment? e.g. Breeze?
if so then you will have to change the fuel tank, lines, to EFI.
chaging the engine to a B16A with a Manual tranny is not that hard, its the money that will talk.
what you will need is: - the obvious
B16A (as u referred to this engine type)
Hydro tranny
Clutch,brake,accelerator pedal assembly.
Manual ECU but can run on Auto ecu too as long as its from a B16A e.g. OBD0,1 but the mapping and redline will be shorter. (not really the best way to go)
Master/Slave clutch cylinder (this should already be with the firewall/tranny)
Shift linkages and gear shifter,
Manual 2xdriveshafts, 1xintermediate shaft.
Optional: upgrade brakes front or rear.
these are the mandatory stuff to get u going.. there maybe other bits n piece ive left out but others here will tell you.
bear in mind it also depends on the generation of the B16a u wish to use:
OBD0 B16A - Cable tranny
OBD1 B16A - Hydro tranny.
But also remember that you cannot put an engine (B16A) older than the OEM EG 92-95 engines. so best bet would be to source a half cut from a 92-95 civic/crx.
decent half cut would be approx: $2500-3500 low k's.
Labour would set u back at least $1000 - unless u do it yourself.
other mandatory stuff like: timing belt, water/oil pumps, drive belts, sparkies, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, tranny oil approx: $350
Fuel tank and with fuel pump approx: $150-250 - depends.
dont set back on an engine and tranny and loom, ecu only and try and get bits and pieces here and there, chasing parts etc. this will delay and definately be a pain in the ass.!!
hope that helps champ!
look for a half cut to make the changeover easier.

For a car worth less than 5 grand, its not worth it.
With the money you would spend on the conversion ($3000+), you can sell your EG and buy a manual EK or DC2 Teggy for $8000. Or buy a Manual EG and spend $3000 on Engine/Rice Mods

if your swapping the engine, you may aswell swap from auto to manual, it wont cost too much more. if not, then dont.

rather rare to see a DC2 for 8k in any kind of decent condition dude.
I think if he's desperate to keep his car, he should find a B18C2 rather than a B16A
i just did a eg2 crx from d15+ auto to b16+ man, front cut is the way to go. Only real body mod i had to do was swap gearbox mount on the rail. this requires cutting the auto mount off and welding manual one on, figured this out after i painted engine bay -_-" , and you need to put two holes in the tunnel to support the gearstick. The rest is bolt in and off you go. Hope this helps =P
