Oh yeah... We've gone negatively on weight reduction and went on weight addition!

Maven Motorsports Mark 1 Shift Knob FTW!

A little info...

According to my Missus' precision (truth or not I have no idea) kitchen scale;

The OEM Euro shift knob weighs in at 80 grams.

The DC5R one weighs in at 150 grams.

The Maven one weighs in at 475 grams (Very close to the advertised 472 grams).

Check out the quality stainless steel spun finish...
The photo don't do enough justice....

Comparison against the DC5R and OEM ones... Sits slightly taller than the DC5R's..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/EuroAccord13/EuroAccord/MavenGK/2.jpg

As for the installed product, I do not have the DC5 ring on the boot and the OEM clippy looks ugly hanging loose under the shift knob, what I did was to remove that clip from the boot and placed a couple of strings of velcro cable ties and stacked them to the right height, then I filled up the hole where the clip sits with another velcro cable tie, snug fit and as Selley's would say, NO MORE GAPS!

HOW DID MAVEN MARK 1 FEEL?

Solid shifting feel against the OEM. Throw is definitely more spot on... The lower height of the Mark 1 also helps to shorten the shift throw (Abeit more obvious on those without a short shifter kit, I have a short shifter and it's not that obvious, I used less hand movement to shift). Because of the weight, less effort is required to shift as well...

As for the shape.. Opinions may vary with different people, I am so used to my own style of shifting with the OEM knob, it is taking me a little time to get used to it..

Beware though, when summer kicks in... Uber hot knob! You can use the supplied shift knob bag to cover it over summer, I will be using that and the Asimo Sock to protect it from the sun... No one wants a fried palm :p

Time to remove the ring.... And then pray hard Rachel don't end up killing me for doing that LOL!.... It's cool, our rings are on our right hand...

It's supposingly Medical-Grade Stainless Steel which should resist abit of scratching...

No it won't. :) That is why I selected this knob. Instead of puny aluminium, this knob is made of stainless steel! So rings made from gold, silver, platinum and soft metals like aluminium won't scratch it at all.

I like it but would want one with a shift pattern. Isn't a car unroadworthy without a shift pattern displayed in the car?

Aaron how is the difference to the DC5R knob? Did you keep the little plastic ring that came with the DC5R knob that tidies up the boot?

That's right. You need the shift pattern. That's why I got this:

Thanks to a nice Ozhonda member who had a spare, my car is now roadworthy. :)

Also, Phatsumo is selling this and it looks good (but expensive)

Why not you guys go meet up at a toilet somewhere and strip down to compare your own knobs.... You can also try to make your knobs touch with other knobs hanging with you....

In the meantime, I'll go search for a shift pattern unless Aaron has found me one....

yfin

I spoke to Dan today and he is planning to have a laser engraved model for the shift pattern in the near future (about 2 months).

Aaron how much is that Razo sticker normally - and are you just going to put it somewhere on the dash? I would prefer to keep mine in a discrete spot like under the lid where the lighter is but that will probably not be good enough for the Police. But I could keep the lid open if I was pulled over...

how is the feel compared to the DC5R knob you had?

Laser engraved would be gooood.

The sticker comes with the knob. I don't think it's sold separately. A member who was using the 5-speed gave me the 6-speed sticker. I've put the sticker on the upper right of the shifter trim, which is just below the ashtray.

I haven't had a chance to try the Maven knob as I am still overseas. My DC5R knob is with EuroAccord13, so he can do the comparison (or you can go over to his place and try out both my knobs :) ).

u guys are really taking this shift pattern thing wayyy to far

sure not having a shift pattern is illegal

but most cops dont care or dont give a shit

ive been pulled over once, and breath tested 20+ times

they go around the car and look for something rong, but they dont even bother checkin the gear knob

i dont have a pattern on the knob, or any where close to it

The shift pattern sticker is easy/cheap to do. Why not just minimise the risk of being defected? You never know when you will meet a cop having a bad day. BTW, I know of someone who was defected for no shift pattern before.

I have a problem guys. When I try to shift from J to Y gear, I get a slight grinding. Going to D, A, M and R is no problem. Also, I can't get into D when the car is moving. I get a loud grinding sound. Is that normal? :p

Hey, I also have the Maven shift knob, its great! I managed to get the adaptor ring off eBay to make the boot sit correctly, I have attached some pics. I actually turned the boot inside out, pushed the adaptor ring through and used the standard plastic collar that came with the factory shift knob to secure the boot to the adaptor. I then wrapped tape around the shaft at the desired height to prevent the ring from falling down. Was very easy and I think it looks pretty good.
