hi guys, im currently experiencing some minor problems associated with the power fc. problem is that my engine is knocking more than what it was before? everytime i drive the car, i would monitor the knock level, a short drive to work in the past would register 16-20 as the highest level. but just recently these figures have increased to 20-26. what could be causing this?

something is loose and rattling maybe.
same deal has happened to my EG. except my knok level goes over 100 at low revs on a too tall gear..
I can hear a loud rattle....

the manual says that if it goes over 60 to get it looked at..
if u get engine light flashing then its goin over 60...
and it will also cut ur engine out..

do you have a/f gauge/wideband sensor?

who tuned it?

could be running lean.

no i dont have an a/f guage, or a wide band sensor. a/f graphs looks pretty good from the last dyno.

i was thinking maybe spark plugs?

well possibly....have you put the wrong heat range plugs in?

Best to return to the tuner & have it checked out.
Where ever you had it tuned should have no problem looking at it.
Bare in mind the Honda knock sensor is quite sensitive & a change from 16~20 to 20~26 is not a massive increase.
That said, by all means it's best to have it checked if you're worried.

have it looked at before you have to rebuild your engine.

This is obviously coming from someone who doesn't own a Power FC. The PFC doesn't have any knock retardation features (i.e, it won't "cut ur engine out").

i mean it's only a minor difference, is that something i should worry about?

Probably not, but keep an eye on it.

hey locate, seeing you have a power fc... when you take your car out for a short 20min drive what is the highest knock level recorded?

normal driving.
with out flogging my motor.. under 20...
once i start reving it 20 to 30..
once i start changing gears like satan is after me 40 to 50..
if your worried bout it select knock and rpm to monitor the bring it up tp the line graphs..
then u will see at wat rpm its knocking..
most of my high knocks are during gear changes as my car is like 12yrs old and u can hear lota rattles specialy during gear changes..
As was said before honda knock sencor is very sencitive and picks up just bout every loud noise in the bay.

sweet.... i've just taken my car out for a fang, highest level knock level is at 44 @ 8502rpm, engine light flashed. i checked the injector duty and it was at 100%

yet.. i get same..
1 flash when i way over 8000rpm i think im not sure but it might be an in dication ur getting close to rev limiter maybe...

100% injector duty??

that is not very good... you should keep it down between 80% to 90%

yeh, i was aware of that. running 100% injector duty was a cheaper alternative... couldnt afford new injectors at the time of the tune.

I have my CEL disabled via the PFC.... simply because of BS knock readings.

Just tonight on the way home from work 178

FWIW - i never see over 20 on normal driving on my PFC,

highest i see is mid 30's on the track...

dyno dave tune FTW :)

i also didnt know you coudl get over 100 knock reading on PFC... news to me, lol!

hui
17-04-2007, 11:54 PM
it's just recently that im getting these mid 20 readings, in the past a normal driving would see 18 the most.

your engine must be in top condition or maybe i just need a retune by so called dyno dave.

dont be scared of the duty cycle, honda seems to like running their injectors to 100% at redline, apparently for greater accuracy at partial loads/lower revs for better economy, emissions, etc

i just filled up with bp ultimate and went for a short spirited drive. there's less knock now, so i think fuel is factor. i've always used optimax.. i will experiment with other fuels to see how the engine responds.

tinkerbell
25-04-2007, 07:49 PM
it is usually NOT the type of fuel, but WHERE you get it from...

the places that sell less 98 will have "worse" fuel than those who sell lots of 98...

also the palces with old tanks might have worse fuel than places with new tanks...

also - dont fill up if you have seen a tanker there... it stirs up th efuel and can contaminate it...

fuel companies will say ht eabove i sall lies, and i cant prove it either... so take from my opinion what you will...

BTW - my knock is now around 20-30 at idle, and goes up over 70 in normal street driving...

however, after the dyno tune last friday - the injectors are clicking like a rattle snake, possibly due to the increased fuel pressure, possibly due to something else...

my tuner says it is fine...

on the track i got a max of 59 knock, and that was exiting the pits...

you are knocking a fair bit idling? mine only 4-11 idling, 17-20 normal driving and when i fully wringed it's neck today 36.

i think it's probably best if you get your fuel system checked out, coz 70 on a normal drive is way too much imo. the manual says if it goes over 60, it needs attention...

mine is about the same, less than 5 idle, 15-20 cruising and up to 39 at WOT to redline. some times spike to 50+ at drag strip..

ROTFL...

did you read my post?

the injectors are clicking like a rattle snake

if you don't understand what this means, it means my injectors are making louder clicking sounds than they were before when they are opening and closing....

the PowerFC is not smart enought to differentiate between 'knock' and injectors clicking... (or gearchanges, or valve tappets etc etc)

my car is not knocking...
