Hey guys, I cant keep my engine in VTEC when i shift any gear. Well I could probably keep it in VTEC going into second if i hit rev limit, but I dont want to do that  and I'm missing VTEC into 3rd by about 500rpm. never hit VTEC in 4th yet :P

Oh and the engine bogs when its under load (in say 3rd up a hill) between 2800 and 3100rpm. I can feel it minamally in 4th and 5th, but i'd say thats because its under less load (only do that cruising to 80 or pulling from 80-110)

Any idea guys? other then that, the engine is running mint, sounds great (bit tractor like in its sound when its cold but smooths out after 2mins of driving) idles great gets a little rough feel around 2000rpm (when in nutral) then smooths out again and feels smooth all the way through.

Thanks

Nick

Does Vtec kick in at the right rpm's (normaly)? or does it seem like its too later than usual? and at what point does it engage vtec?

is your car idling at 2000 rpm when its warm?? that's quite high dude.

the vtec crossover should be at about 5600rpm...

shift at 8000rpm and it should plop back into the range nicely.

other than that... shift faster??

Yeah its around 5600-5800... probs shifting too slow... but i don like shifting fast :P

nah when i rev it to 2000 in nuetral is feels a little rough, nothing major just a bit more engine vibration than at other RPM's.

you need WOT shift ( wide open throttle shift ) :)

Dude, don't you have an EK4?
I never had any problems with dropping out of vtec when upchanging.

:D :D :D

seriously you basically have to be shifting at redline to stay in vtec. maybe just a touch over red :)

For me to stay on the VTEC profile on a shift ( > 5400 on my 1G B16A) I have to shift between 7800 and 8000, I usually touch 8100 to make sure (or get the death cries from the rev limiter by mistake if I screw up :D).

yeah, fun night.

good stuff guys ;)

yeah shift a lil b4 8000rpm
ur revs should drop jus on vtec engagement or a lil after
dependin on how fast u shift aswell i guess

with my dc2 i shift at 8000rpm and it drops jus down to 6000rpm - 6200rpm
dependin on how quick i shift i guess

yeah but you cant compare DC2 to EK4.
different gearing

this is roughly what i've noticed, with quick shifts
1s@8000t-2nd@5700
2nd@8000-3rd@5700
dont top 3rd out on the street :P seems to be up around the 140 mark so never really push it. just quick bursts to get up to the limit.

For my h22a and it is pretty hard to get into 2nd straight away in vtec...sometimes it can be done...but most times im about 300rpm or so below.

2nd to 3rd is pretty much the same, bout ~500rpm below.....but must admit I dont usualyl get up there very much as Im already doing about ~125kmp/h changing 2nd to 3rd :D

shifting at about 8000 should keep you in vtec.. in a civic std b16 with std short ratio box that is... if u want to be in the meet of the torque shift at 8200 ish just before rev limiter...think the civic vtir boxs have the same ratios as the ITR...
just my 2 cents worth

from memory ITR box has different ratios on 4th and 5th gear.

my revs dont drop that far, so i think I'm just not pushing it hard enough before i shift because my gears are all 1000RPM apart, or around that, from 1st - 2nd all the way up to 4th-5th.

does it screw up your car when you keep reving it to just say.. 8100 revs?

theres a post about that in ALL motor, "longevity" i think its called. But essentially no, providing you take care of the engine and service it VERY regularly.

doesn't a vtec controller lower or raise in rpm needed to engage vtec?

get one!

I installed the VAFC lately. Got it tune as well. Does any one here knows the diff from the Vin and Vout in the monitor?

I rev the car at 4800rpm Vout shows ON but Vin shows OFF. What does it really mean?

I really dont know but it sounds like Vin would be a signal from the ECU VTEC solenoid and Vout goes to the actual Vtec solenoid. Like I said I have NFI, does this sound right to anyone, does the VAFC change Vtec point at all..

Vin = where vtec will engage on the rising of the rev's
Vout = where vtec will disengage on the dropping of the rev's

Vin = where vtec will engage on the rising of the rev's
Vout = where vtec will disengage on the dropping of the rev's

So if i rev the car at 4800rpm Vout shows ON but Vin shows OFF. What does that signify, should i get someone to look at it?
