one guy come over last week to test drive my B16A EK4. He test once very hard, he gives 7800 REVS at the 1st gear, which is very close to the red line. i just want to know is that can make any demage to the engine, or any affect to a good condition engine? my car is only done 105,000 kms now. how strong is a b16a enigine to against the hard drive? thanks!

damn strong.

it wont hurt it if you do it now and then, just dont run around on wide open throttle for say, a year on end with a cold motor.

the reason why there's a redline is because A) valvetrain and pistons cant keep up B) wont make any power up there so its a waste of time

B16A's are great motors.

thank you, mate! so i shouldn't worry too much? is 105,000kms still very young for it?

depends on what kind of life it has had.

could just be worn in, could be worn out.

its a car man, its going to wear down and stuff.

Dont worry about the KM, worry about the enjoyment.

Whether a car has done 190k or 40k, depends on condition man. You can always build a new motor :)

Just make sure your engine oil is the correct viscosity and always at the max level. Once warmed up, you can rev it up to 8000rpm as well without damage.

when I had my eg with B16a, it was superchipped. could rev it way into the red zone but from experience, 8500 is enough as beyond that, engine resonance tells you its over the limit.

despite frequent forays into the redline and beyond, the engine never gave me any problems. the old engines were over engineered imho

max power is @ 7600rpms anyway for the stock ek4 i believe =) which is close to redline already

Very true. And can actually rev it higher than 8,000. Standard redline is 8200 on a b16a2, i had mine Hondata'd so my redline was 8600, never had a single problem.

but- ALWAYS make sure your car is properly up to temp (thats OIL temp, not the water temp on guages), and it will be fine.

the VTEC motor is designed to rev to redline :)
Besides , thats when its only power is made.....otherwise ANY vtec motor is a slug. Lol.

i tried mine, and i revved it slowly till fuel cut cos i wanted to noe the fuel cut and i got to 8.4-5 but its pretty useless goin up to there past redline, changin at 8 or 7.8 is safer and if u go up further makes no difference i dun reckon, talkin about stock here

I read somewhere a while ago, that in order to be shifting into second gear while VTEC is still engaged that you need to be shifting past the redline at 82,000 rpm. Anybody know if thats true?

Its all in how quick you are with the gear stick and clutch pedal.. and yes you'll need to shift near redline. You wont be able to go past redline due to stock limiter

stock b16a fuel cuts or stock limiter thing at 8,400-500 rpm, redline is 8,000rpm, it is possible to go past redline to 8.4, but no power produced, not that i felt anyway, and yer i agree with Benson, it all depends on how fast u are with ur clutch pedal and gear change, at redline or a lil past to get it in VTEC. fast enough u could shift 7,900 n still be in VTEC
