trying to change my seats over but the bolts for the rails are like so tight i cant seem to get them undone. so far ive broken an adaptor for my socket kit already. it was a 14.99 one at super cheap auto lol. would wd40 help? or should i buy a more expensive socket kit? any other tips?
soak in wd40 and use a breaker bar.
Just make sure you're not tightening it instead of loosening.
right tight left loose.
also make sure the socket sits properly or you're going to round the head.
never use the open end side of a spanner.
I would actually prefer an impact driver instead of a breaker bar.

damn im dumb. no wonder it broke because i was tightening it hahahaha. whats an impact driver and a breaker bar? what happens if u use an open end side of a spanner does it like slip and round the edges off?

heres an update... umm i managed to unbolt all the bolts except 2 of them. u know the one at the back of the seat that bolts the rail down? on the drivers side its the one at the back rear and it is vertical. on the passenger side the same bolt except this ones on the left hand side and is vertical too. it just seems to slip when i use the socket. maybe because i can't get enough weight on it? ive used wd40 but it still doesn't seem to budge?!

DONT keep on trying to tun it - you are rounding the nut and once its fully rounded , you wont be able to get any socket or spanner onto it.
Soak it in WD40 , and try an adjustable spanner on it.
REMEMBER which way to turn -
(from facing the bolt top)
LEFTY - LOSE
RIGHT - TIGHT

so basically clockwise is loosen?
and anti-clockwise is tighten?
adjustable spanner didn't work i tried it before then used socket then that was way better but still couldnt do those last ones.
i saw there was metal adhedsive or sumthing on sale in the same aisle in supercheap auto. is this so the there is more grip between the two metal surfaces? maybe i should use that?
Lefty loosy, Righty tighty
Don't use open ended spanners... Sockets or ring spanners and at that geared ring spanners
Shifters (adjustable spanners) are pretty much useless
I would strongly recommend that you buy some decent sockets if you plan on working on your car... It will make life so much easier for you
Powerbuilt is a fairly reasonable brand to start off with
Personally I use SnapOn; but have Kingcrome/Sidchrome at the workshop which I'm slowly replacing with SnapOn

oh and i used wd40 too :(
Go to super cheap and ask for a 12/14mm socket in a 3/8th or 1/2 inch drive and a ratchet to suit... The longer the handle the more leverage you have, the easier it will be to remove the bolt
I can't remember if it's 12 or 14mm bolts that hold the rails onto the chassis
Impact socket is normally referred to a socket that is stronger than normal and can be used with an impact driver

Regular sockets will just break when used with an impact driver

left and right confuses me... can sum1 tell me in clockwise or anti-clockwise terms :\
yeh i guess i will hafta try to buy sum better quality tools. what about a socket that is like T shape. the socket being at the bottom on the T and the top bit of the T being the handle to it spins around? is there something such as that and if so is that better than a normal socket with the one handle.

its 12mm sockets for the rails. so u think an impact driver with impact socket will be better?

Smack the bolt with a hammer a few times and soak with wd40.

yeh? smack it with a hammer? sounds good to me those bolts are pissing me off haha. btw which direction should i smack it? from the side or on top?
its 12mm sockets for the rails. so u think an impact driver with impact socket will be better?
I think a 12mm 3/8inch drive socket with a 3/8inch drive ratchet will do the job nicely
To make it easier you could put a small metal pipe onto the ratchet to increase the leverage
I wouldn't go smacking it with a hammer however
If all else fails just put the other bolts back in... Go to any mechanical workshop on Monday and get them to put an air gun onto it and that will take it off in the blink of an eye...
If they ask you to pay for removing the bolt just slug him in the face and run

LOL
hrm might need to do that (go to mechanical shop) as im getting slippage with my socket thingy. i think the major issue is getting enuff grip on the bolt.

And yeah, left=anti-clockwise=loosey
right=clockwise=tighty

kewl thanks for all the advice guys :)
what happens if u use an open end side of a spanner does it like slip and round the edges off?
Yes...The open ended side doesn't grip well on the sides hence they tend to slip. The box end have more contact and are better. Open ended sides are good only if the nut is already loose.
Also, make sure you're using Metric (mm) tools, not imperial (7/16 etc)...The imperial may seem to fit but theres abit of play.

i wish honda didn't tighten up the bolts so much. well i guess its probably better that they did lol.

When I work on my car, whichever bolt that doesn't need to be loctite, I coat them with Anti Seize.

do u think those metal adhesive sprays will be of any use to untighten the stuck bolts or is it used for making bolts stay tighter?

Adhesive = To join together...
What do you think?

i guess that makes sense haha.
but i was thinking it u sprayed it on the socket and bolt and tried turning it then there would be extra grip. but anyway i better read the label of them things first anyway lol.

if wat ur talking about is like mine, one piece is the handle and the other bit is just an attachment u put on it at a right angle to be able to reach bolts that are a bit difficult to access. a decent ratchet socket set pays for itself, threading bolts with a phillips head screwdriver is not fun :(
wen i had sum difficult bolts to get out i soaked them in rp-7 (wd-40) overnnight re-applying several times then gave them a good go (anti-clockwise is out) and they came relatively easily :) however it sounds like you might have already threaded the outside of those bolts...
gl with that anyway :)

whats threading the outside of the bolts?
ill try more wd40 hehe...

same as rounding - ruining the outside thread so u cant get a socket onto it.
if worst comes to worst u may have to drill them out.

i bought some of the marine kinda spray thing. its like wd40. wish me luck haha. also i found a mechanic that would help me if i need a rattle gun.

16-04-2007, 09:09 PM
if its too rounded a rattle gun wont work either hey?
nope... you may need an impact driver if it's too rounded.
you could always use an "ezy-out" as well if the head of the bolt can be drilled.

buy a hex socket and use a spark plug rachet...or try tapping the head with a hammer to losen the bolt abit

What about heating the bolt with a mini flame thrower? Worked for me... (In similar situations)

well coz its in the interior of my car i cant do that or my car will go on fire hahaha...
but anyway i used a vise grip and managed to undo it eventually while stuffing up the bolts kinda haha. they are like all funny shaped now. ive managed to put one integra seat into my civic now just have to put the other one in coz i didnt have enough time to put the last one in last night. feel so happy that i got the bolts undone thanks everybody. :)
