HIDs on a car that didnt come stock with HIDs = defect.
Doesnt matter wat rating its at.

hey what about this....
if u got a aus spec type r and jap spec conversion, that came stock with hids, is that a defect?

Mr_will
17-04-2007, 12:55 AM
yes, because it isnt original equipment in the AUDM car.

It won't be a defect if its self levelling and has washers ;)

Regardless of what DM it came from.

they are a defect but only upto 6000K can be engineered

anything not stock on a car can be a defect depending on the evaluation of the police officer ... depends on ur luck and how much your can stands out... i've been lucky so far 6000k

if cops cant see your ballast.. should be alrite with hid, as long its secured too and no more than 6000K

i get away with it :) by saying JDM spec car

Key word, should.
If the cop knew that the car didnt come stock with HIDs, regardless of whether he's seen the ballast or not, he can defect you.

That said, majority of cops dont know these differences, and you may be lucky enough to get away with it.
Your risk to take.

yep thats right ...
its at your own risk :)...

sometimes is depends how bad or good mood was the cop .. if he/she is a *b!tch than that would be .. something really sux at ..

my friend S2K got defected from a factory HID,
he got pulled offer coz Vtec was screeming on the quiet street at 3am.
he just taken off from the parking bay in 1st gear.. and hit vtec
he wasnt speeding .. but cops just try to make an excuse and get him defected for HID..
he wouldnt want to argue .. or else more complicated ..

Bottom line, cops know nothing. You could say the ballast is your car stereo battery and they will believe you.

You will be amazed at how little traffic cops know about cars.

haha some very interesting replies

so the 6000k HID kit may be a defect as it depends on the cop, but 8000k is just pushing the limit for the cop to defect you?

Q_ball
17-04-2007, 06:27 PM
No, you got it all wrong there,
6000k IS a defect,
Its a complete gamble if you choose to install HIDs.

Receiving a defect will depend on the cop, not the kelvin rating.

sounds straight forward to me, your friend just needs to write a letter and maybe send a brochure for an S2K to the police and tell them "looks its stock"

it does depend on the cops that do decide to defect you, ive got a 8000k H4 hid kit for my ek civic, ballasts in plain sight, they asked about the colour temp and i said i didnt know, i actually got defected for my exposed pod and other things but not my hid's, shows that this defecting business is just revenue raising

it could also be personal knowledge of each individual officer, if they dont know what to look for then they wont book you

JDMCVC
17-04-2007, 08:28 PM
they knew it was hid lights, but they were unsure of colour temp, as someone already said hid is a defect for any car that doesnt have it from factory, im lucky i got away for it anyway, its a risk no doubt

Blue/Purple light from these is bad news for you, bad visibility and probable defect.

i had 10.000K on my mums car
stock toyota avalon with HID :p and never got porblem with it for 1 year with the cops. (never got pullen over maybe thats why :)) ...
its really poor on fogy night and raining .. ..
the more bluish colour you got the harder u see the road on that condition but great at clear condition..
so better of with 6000...

I wonder why :thumbdwn:

If you are going to have HID light you MUST have the housing to suit, other wise the light will be all over the place blinding everyone, be it people in front of your or coming towards you...

**** it you might as well just have flood lighting on your roof with a disco ball rotating in front of them

Australia is full of **** suckers who drive around with high beams on all the time and morons that have their headlights pointing whatever way the wind blows...

Jesus christ people, I know being defected for having an exposed pod filter on an FI car is the most retarded thing ever, but when it comes to headlamps the laws are there for a ****ing reason, and a bloody good one too

HAHAHAHAH !!!! Drew... dun blow ur head up about lights :p
calm down ..
although its much harder if we have lowered car ... facing an on coming 4WD that pissed me of the most !! grrr ... (noooo im blinded :p) + if they have higher dirver light ..!!

i dont agree with your bogan-like inability to construct a sentence without a profanity, but i do agree with your point.

driving in a car that is relatively low already, when a car with HID's, or a 4wd(their lights are obviously a lot higher up than a normal cars) is behind me, i cant see jack, and have to change the angle of all my mirrors to be able to drive normally.

when these cars are coming towards me, my visibility is severely compromised, and i welcome the enforcement of laws which stop people from having dodgy HID's.

if youre going to get it done, get it done right.

But seriously every second car I go past has ****ed up headlights that blind me -_-

4x4s are going to blind you no matter what because of their ride height, nothing you can do about it...

But don't become one of there morons that blinds everyone else...

It's about time Australia introduce mandatory vehicle inspections at regular intervals, that will get those shit boxes off the road with bald tires and ****ed up headlights and most importantly those cars where only one brake light works... just... if you squint you might be able to see it

I thought you just paid it and that was it?

Then how come every second car I see has at least one tail light out?

I second that. a Cop questioned the STOCK wing on the back of my DC5R. saying "what about this wing huh? its a bit ilegal don't you think?"

I had to hold myself back from lolling at his face

i was once passenger in a mate's mr2. cop pulled over, pointed towards the front, and asked to see in the engine bay.

that being said, there are plenty of cops who are into cars themselves, and know quite a lot about them. i wouldnt do anything relying on getting a dumb cop.

AsH_
19-04-2007, 12:20 AM
can a cop pull you over if they suspect that your car has a defect.

for instance, cops see a car driving normal speed limit, car doesnt look all fancy...

can they just pull you over and just look for defects???

040501912
19-04-2007, 12:28 AM
yeah they will ash ..
if they see P'plates
or u look suspicious as a terrorist :p
all depends how c0cky is the cop and how d1ckhead is he .. but most of the cop i find is pretty cool and doesnt give me any trouble :)
they only give me ticket coz i cross the rule LOL

i dont put up my P plates...

makes me stand out 2 much...

wen ive been pulled over, they have been pretty good to me...

every 1 want to race you rite ? hahaha i just of my P's few months ago WEW !! freedom hahaha

if u speed old people will say "what a hoon P platers are" <-- this where cops where got the idea p plates are hooner

AsH_

i remember the first time on my P's, my dad let me take out the car to pick up my gf at the time... within 20mins of driving on the highway, i had 3 ppl wanting to drag me at the lights...

i was like... hmmm... why does everyone want to race me???
probably coz i was driving a Holden w/P plates...

i dont like the attention... its been over 2 yrs and havent used P plates... except from the odd occassion my wife tells me to put em up...

Photonic_Si

in cops eyes P = Pick on me Please

I got a defect because i had the plastic vanes cut out of my stock EG front bar. the cop said "aftermarket front spoiler, hmm makes it a bit low, you know thats a pedestrian danger, no mesh and someones leg could get stuck into your engine bay components. thats a defect (insert smiley cop smirk)"
To which i said "yeah well the engine bay compnents would be the least of their worries if they walked into the path of my car while it was at such a speed that i couldnt avoid them"

My car was considered "Lift and Tow" for no mesh. 8 cops attended that traffic stop because a "silver hatchback" was witnessed racing.

I had 8000k Hid's burning hot but because of the cleaness of my car a the time it was considered a post 2000 model and probably had stock everything else. this shows how smart cops are

While all this was happening 2 silver corollas went past the other way and a proton GTi passed by me..... silver hatchbacks... i was on my way home from work in my VTi, i am 21.

cant miss them with the HID's

cops dont seem too anal about them

ALF487
20-04-2007, 10:21 AM
ive never had a problem.. i live in sydney and i travel back and forth on Anzac Parade, a street where every weekend there'll be cops waiting on the side for RBT. i always have my HID's on.. never got defected

Low Beam 9000K (abit purpleish)
Fog Lights 8000K (pure blue)

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/6711/img3918tm0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

but when i do see cops around.. i turn off my FOG lights STRAIGHT AWAY.. because 1. its illegal to have Foggies on. and 2. its illegal to have HID for Foggies.

Its easier for a Euro to get away with HIDS, as the Lux comes standard with them.
On other cars its a different story.

dupac->
23-04-2007, 12:36 AM
but yeah just becos a cop doesnt notice or say anything doesnt mean its not a defect..

HID's are a defect if your car didnt come standard with them. so dont be suprised if u do get defected.

ur taking a risk putting them on hehe
