Hi guys - thought you might be interested to know that Honda dealers in Melbourne seem to be charging between $195 and $220 for the 10k Euro service.

Seems a little steep. The service book says 0.7 hours total labour and the ONLY parts used is for the oil change (they don't even change the oil filter)... Hmmm -- maybe I don't need to go to the dealer....

What do you guys reckon - ditch the dealers for servicing my Euro?

My euro will have it's 10k service this coming July, so I'll let you know how much I am charged.

If you service it with other than dealers, will the warranty stays?

Warranty should stay as long as its an approved garage and you get your book stamped :)

Noooo!!! dont be sucked in by the Ultratune TV ads. That "I guarantee it" line is really annoying!!

I have known a few friends who have had problems with ultratune and auto masters. The workmanship really does vary from franchisee to franchisee.

For saftey's sake just take your car back to the dealer during warrantee and after warrantee do whatever you want.

I very recently had my 10K service done at a Honda dealership which cost me $120. This did not include tyre rotation and pressure checking, which is listed as part of the Honda 10K service, as the wheels and tyres are looked after seperately (by another company). Maybe you could organise the same with your dealership, tell them someone is doing the wheels and tyre rotation, and save yourself some bucks.

hey, its not just ultra tune, workmanship varies everywhere including dealer sevice centres.

I run my shop right next door to ultra tune and i would take it there without hesitation before i took it to the honda dealership.

I just had my 6month/10,000km service on my Jazz (it has 5,700km) last weekend.

It cost me over $230 and all they did was the usual crap in the book, but I also get a new oil filter every change - that's the only way they do it too!

To be honest I think the price for you and for me is BS. The book says it will take 0.7 hours or whatever yet each 0.1=6minutes. So that equals 42 minutes total. My labour charge alone was $135. The equates to about $180 per hour...for a mechanic!

I must admit though that my price was inflated due to the fact that they used full synthetic oil (that came to $55). They do do an awesome job, and I don't know many stealers that insist on changing oil filters with every oil change and will change to full synthetic after the 5,000km run-in...he even gave me the run-down as to why they used full synthetic (I didn't ask them to use it).

Ring a few stealers to get some prices and see if they differ, but it sounds about right to me. Just tell them not to do a few things as EuroZ suggested, I mean ho hard is it for you to check your own tyre pressure?!

Rick D Honda in Sydney charge $238 for the $10k.

But the service guys explained that there is no timing belt service as it runs a chain that would probably oinly need to be tightened at 200,000km, and they do transmission fluid at 120,000km not every 40k, plus a few others.

ie the major services have been stretched out further so overall its cheaper to maintain the car in the long run.

I'm nearing my 10K soon...

So... 10K service involves just an oil change and no filter change? Top up fluids and that's it???

I might as well go somewhere else and do it since my car warranty is more or less void..

Yep - that is all it involves (save for safety inspection, general look over, etc).

Re warranty - I am told you can take the car to any registered mechanic and the warranty is not impacted.

DANG.. I'll ask for a new filter... I don't believe in oil filter lasting that long anyway..

Yoram, what I mean in Voiding of my warranty is that I have tapped the ECU of the car already and theorically.. my warranty for the car voids on the spot, plus my other bits.. so I don't think it makes a difference if I go to my tuner to tune my car.. going back to the dealer only makes the log book looks more valuable that it LOL :D
