Yes, you can connect an aftermarket headunit to factory speakers. Headunits tend to come in 'Din' or 'DoubleDin' sizes (ie the size of standard headunits) and I havent ever really seen smaller.

Exactly. They use a standard measuring system.

Euro's have two mounting options without going for a custom set up. First kit replaces entire factory headunit as well as air con controls, the kit is expensive though $499 and it looks cheap and nasty. The other option is to another kit which replaces the centre storage box, this option is much cheaper but then you lose the option of using the area for storage. A lot of newer car's have integrated headunits like the euro so you can't simply just take out the factory deck and install a new one.

Here is an example of the 2nd option, which is to mount th headunit i the centre storage compartment.

The kit which completely replace the front facia:

You can mount it wherever you like. The most practical place after the dash is probably the glove box.

Only thing extra you might need to make everything easier is a conversion loom (cant remember what they are called) so that you can patch your stock wiring into the new headunit wiring. Other than that you just need to match wires.

That being said, if you are going to get a shop to install it for you, then I would just take the headunit along and get them to do everything.
