This is the motor from my civic, I don't enough about civics to tell what it is, there is no Si badge or anything on the car :( I hope somebody here can give me info on it! I would like anything you can find on this motor, thanks. I also look forward to becoming a part of the OzHonda community :)

I get approx 550 to 600km out of one tank of premium, from my D15 beast :) Not bad for an old carby motor,

100bhp from a 1500, it's a top little motor and can be made to develop about 140-150 bhp if you want to spend a lot of money.

I had one before I got my EF9.

I bought the car second hand and I know that the engine was re-built from the mounts up, I guess it was re-built with a second hand engine? It's done about 30k on the new one. What are some simple-ish things I could do to it to gain a bit more performance? It's currently got a 2" Exhaust that is 2" all the way from the engine, it also has some aftermarket air filter or something, as you can see in the pic, but any tips?

Usual stuff, cam, and bump the compression. Twin webbers would add to it as well. Hunt around for people selling good D series headers - don't get the junk ones. Unfortunately, while this is a top motor, you have to spend a small fortune to get it running hard - and you'd prolly be able to drop in a D series SOHC VTEC or ZC for a similar price to all the mods you do.

BTW - want to sell your rear parcel shelf? ;)

the weight of the ED slash EF's has alot to do with that.... they are nice and light.

Depends which EF you are talking about Rowie - the EF9 weighs in at 1030 kilos - about 100 more than the ED6 :D

But the EF9 is quicker for some reason ;)

BTW - referring to the 4G series, you forgot to mention the Euro EEs.

Should read ED slash EF slash EE.

Did any other Civic have this many designations?

1Gs were SBCs but I think the US had a different designation for them, can't remember what 2Gs were, 3Gs were AT in Japan and had a different designation for export (Chuck, what was your VIN?), EGs are EGs worldwide, likewise EKs and EMs and EPs.

Hmmm - more 4Gs on these forums nowadays - sounds like we need to run a 4G meet ;)

maybe not the EF in that case pete... you picky bastard hahaha.....

4G meet sounds good to me. my rego papers say my ED weighs 870kg..... does that sound right?

Setanta

I had that on my papers too (when I had an ED6 GL), but when I put it on a public weigh bridge it was actually 924 kilos (AC, PS, power everything else standard). Most of the rest of the weight difference between my ED and my EF is in the B16A and the factory sunroof - plus the extra metal Honda put into the engine-bay redesign. LOL - then again, If someone was really picky, they'd notice the lack of intrusion bars in my doors... and behind my bumpers :D

To bring back my old thread...

Is this the stock engine for this car? Also what engines could I swap it for easily, ZC, B16A?

Setanta

ZC and D-series SOHC VTEC are the easiest swaps.

MoonSha

So is this the stock engine for this car? I know it was rebuilt, it would be great if it was a newer motor. The biggest problem is the gearbox is pretty hard to move between first-second and third-second, will I have to replace the whole gearbox to fix that?
