Hey
I just got my head gasket replaced on my vti-r and took the car for a drive. The only difference i've noticed is that there is no vtec at all. (its not kicking in y0)
Any idea's on whats going on?

Is the car still warming up as normal?
The vtec will not kick in until the thermostat reaches a certain temperature, sometimes if the thermostat is stuck open it can mean the car is operating at too lower temperature!

His VTEC fell off, first point to check is the VTEC solenoid, if that isn't plugged in properly, then your VTEC indeed has fallen off...

check your oil levels
do an ecu code check to narrow it down further

remember to warm it up 1st, u can usually hear it in my dc2 vtir down low wen its not ready yet it sounds light and weak, like my 1.5 eg civic does, than wen it is ready it will growl a bit more wen i put my foot down, than i know i can safely take it up into vtec, if its hard to tell in your car might pay to get a oil pressure and oil temp guages
if its not ready and u go up to vtec mode it will sound fluttery and buzzy and shit and isnt really good for your motor =/

does the car feel "flat" when it goes above the normal VTEC engagement ?
Thats the obvious sign that VTEC is not engaging for whatever reason.
Any MIL / ECU light come on the dash ?

did they use a honda head gasket, or some non gen head gasket ( from a non VTEC blocking the oil feed hole for the VTEC system )
98 DC2 wont have a VTP ( VTEC Pressure Switch ) so the ecu wont know that VTEC isnt engaged. so no engine light comes on
if they forgot to connect the VTEC solenoid the Egine light will come on.
you will need to check for oil pressure from the bolt at the front of the head when you energise the VTEC solenoid

maybe you should buy a new vtec:thumbsup: take it back to where you got your head gasket done and tell them to fix it

nah dont use it as an indication, its usualy more of a 'whoa man... better ease up a bit' it kiks up enough fuss to let u know its there =)

I would say that is probably a better indication of you needing some new tyres man!

kmon now guys whats wrong with burnouts, my crusty accord gear box slips out of gear when its in d3 and d4 usually around right hand turns and a slight incline and revs like shizz then comes back and does a decent skiddie lol , doesnt slip when its in 2 though :S... might aswell use this to my advantage any ideas what wrong?

I recommend u take ur car to a honda mechanic to have your vtec problem diagnosed properly. u should try and find out what head gasket was used as well.

seems like it was a sensor problem. gave the sensor a clean or something and its fine now.

Sometimes I swear mine doesnt kick in at the right time in 2nd gear!!!???

vtec not working =
a) Solenoid not plugged in
b) Car not warmed up
c) Low oil levels
