I just blew up my EG3 Civic Breeze Engine and am now looking for a new one...
Before you say to search...

I dont want to go the full out super fast engine swap everyone else does, mainly due to my lack of cash... And 'cos my mum is being gay about it...

So what else is out there? I mean a new breeze engine would be enough really... But How much would an engine from an SI or GLI be? Or is a super go fast engine going to only be a few hundred more expensive?

Thanks...

u could probably pick up just a breeze engine for $100 if some one has recently done a motor upgrade.

try FLY or Benson if they have any laying around

you serious!? Mechanic quoted $1500-$2000? Is that too expensive?
Its including labour...

Majority labour & bullshit... you have to specify with them what they will be doing for that price...

IMO, get your mates together and DIY. Most grease DIY'ers on her know nothing more frustrating & rewarding than switching your own motor... and finding 30+ spare nuts & bolts from the switch...

Theres no way i can do a DIY job... i'll probly give it a go on the next car... but with yr 12 goin on i dont have the time or the knowledge.

So if i could pick up a Breeze engine for $100... how much would an SI/GL one be? And how much is it gonna jack the price up for an EFI engine?

$1500-$2000 sounds about right really

You will find that hey will do a bit more than just switch over the engine, probably new sparks, leads, fluids and lubricants etc etc anything else that might need to be changed... All the little things will add up

But majority will be labour

Mate 2000 sounds a bit much. To put it into perspective, i recently had to get an engine replaced for a friend's hyundai sonata.

2nd hand engine prices ranged from 750-900, the cheapest being a trade-in engine price. I then phoned around various mechanics and got labour prices ranging from $650 to $1200. This was labour only, to remove and install the 2nd hand engine in, as well as replace timing belt, pump, and main seal, and all new oils and fluids. I found that smaller private mechanics charged more than some places like midas or franchised mechanics like goodyear etc, surprisngly.

take the time to call at least 5 places and you will discover the difference and the money you may save.

Not just the money you need to consider. It's hard to find someone you can trust and is honest with you and who will be willing to help you iron any problems out once the job is done and dusted. To me it is worth paying extra for that.

What's your location?

Motor swaps 1k+ @ workshops.

Motor itself is cheap as chips.

Maybe ask around on O/H for one who has experience to do a swap for a set price. There are a few guys on here that would have experience and knowledge to be able to pull it off in a whole days work for a better price than any mechanic...

PM Benjammin if your in Syd

Breeze is carbie isnt it? if so perhaps that is why the quote for SI or GLI so expensive as i believe they are fuel injected systems. If this is the case then go get a quote on specificaly the Breeze engine. You should find it much cheaper then.

A GL (not GLi) would be the best for what your after. Seriously ditch the 1.3!

Got the GL engine :-D Tok it for a run tonight and omfg i can actually get the tires to spin if i try lol... the breeze wouldnt even do that unless it was wet....

Also... the speedo worked for a bit then just dropped to 0... WTF... I used a GPS to do speed all night and im taking it back to the workshop tomorrow, but what the hell would cause that?

Either VSS wiring not plugged in properly, bad connection behind the instrument cluster or faulty VSS.
