Hey guys..

I just bought my first car about 2 months ago now - 95 Integra VTi-R. not having any real engine modifications, it's drinking a tad too much fuel. All it's got done to it really is air intake, and a modchip, exhaust tip.

It's been mod-chipped for vtec to kick in earlier, at 4500. I want to know how I can un-modchip it? What do I look for?

I have the feeling that the fuel to air ratio's been tampered with too. So I wanna reset the computer if possible? How?

Thanks for any help.

Ciao

you would need to take out the ECU ( located in the kick panel , on the passengers left hand side) , unplug the 3 connectors to the ecu , use a phillips head screwdriver and take off the cover. Then , either unplug or cut out the actual "chip" itself. That is , if you 100% know what it looks like.

ok then try to remove the ECU , take off the cover like i described above and take a hi-res picture of the insides. Someone here should be able to identify what is the "chip".

depends how its been modded but more than likely have to remove the bottom cover on the ECU and open J1 so the ECU reads the internal ROM.

it would of more than likely had an external eprom.

you will need a standard chip from a vtir.

take the top cover off the computer and take a photo of what it looks like inside. we would be able to help you more after we know what you have.

when you take off the top cover in the corner you will see a eprom(chip) has been added, as ECU-MAN siad you can replace this eprom with 1 that has a standard tune on it. or on the the back side of the of the ecu there should be jumper pins(depends on who chipped it) on location J1 when shorted make the ecu reads the external ROM, when open reads internal ROM. Post some pics:thumbsup:

Thanks for the posts guys.. but it all just goes quite a bit over the top of my head at the moment.

I will be taking the ECU cover off tomorrow and taking a photo. Check back soon.

Thanks guys for all the assistance.

Ok, well.. I said that I'll take off the ECU cover today to take a photo.. but I'm stuck in the process.

I took off every scew/bolt that I see that has anything to do with the cover, but it won't budge.

Below's a pic of what i'm stuck on. That is the cover I'm trying to take off, right?

My dad says that that looks like some kind of air box, or something. He's not sure either.

you took out the glovebox.

Look down , to the lower LEFT hand side of this picture. You can see carpet or plastic yeah ? Pull it back , and your ECU will be sitting there.

There's a plastic bit on the lower left, yes. Pull it back, yeah? Shouldn't snap, right, because it's quite tight on there.

Yep, I realised.

I've got it open here on my desk atm, but I'm just waiting another minute for the battery to charge up for a few ticks.

But.. wierd news.. you'll see in the pic i post next. Gimme 2 mins

their is no mod chip

is your car an australian deliverd car,

coz that is an ECU from a Japanese car

I don't know. How will I find out?

Well... something still isn't right because I'm up to half a tank, and only got 180km's out of it so far.

I think I'm gonna reset the ECU using this GUIDE (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38742).

ECU-MAN
28-04-2007, 05:35 PM
you have already reset the ecu, ( by removing it from the car )

it doesnt have a learn procedure as its OBDI.

if your car has a VIN # starting with JHMDC238 then its an Australian Deliverd car

I have seen some Si civics deliverd with Jap ECU's in them ( including JDM ROM's )

so it all may be normal

you could have a fault with the oxygen sensor. or blocked air filter. or maybe yoru just guning it to much :)

What your VIN if it starts with jhmdc is an aussie car

depends

I'll go out now and check the VIN.

So by what you're saying ECU MAN, to reset the system I don't have to go through this (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38742) whole process again?

If I understood right.. I just turned on the car and I'm letting it just sit there, without revving at all.. just idling, then I'm gonna go for a bit of a drive as using the entire rev range, as read in the resetting EXU thread.

Am I onto something, or am I completely lost? :p

EDIT: Just checked VIN - it's JHMDC2.

you could have a fault with the oxygen sensor. or blocked air filter. or maybe yoru just guning it to much :)Nah, not gunning it much at all since I put in this new tank, because I wanted to see how many k's i'de get out of a tank with normal driving.

How can I find out if I the oxygen sensors got a fault?

ECU-MAN
28-04-2007, 06:06 PM
to reset the ecu in the car you pull the fues described in that thread for 30 seconds max, any longer is a waist of time

you have already reset the ecy by removing it from the car causing it to loose all its power.

a cheap ass jaycar kit or an ociliscope will be enough test the O2 sensor.

the jay car kits are cheep and work well, but require a bit o electronics knowledge to assemble.

I like using a waveform viewer ( ociliscope ) to see the output pattern of the o2. It should respond to throttle opening when warm, if its lazy then toss it out and replace it.

could it be the fuel you are using contributing to poor fuel economy? I remember I used to get around 320-350 out of one tank (35 litre) with my b16 and that was only a 1.6 litre engine. Then I changed and got a whole 100 km more out of a tank.
