They are a great car, if you get one you'll be very happy. Just make sure you thorougly check out the one your looking at. Get it checked out by a mechanic if you feel. Check service records etc. Have a detailed look over the car.

Fuel consumption is very good around the streets. Obviously if you have a lead foot and get addicted to that VTEC noise, then it will drink more.
are they reliable and cheap to maintain?
Its a honda and generally is more at the expensive end. But you get what you pay for and the quality is there in the whole car.
are they quick with basic modifications?
They are quick full stop. Basic mods I/H/E respond very well. With a good stand alone ecu, better again.

a sound system in this car is a compromise because they are quite noisy. they have thinner glass, and a lot of dound deadening removed.
but if your into dropping 10k worth of stereo gear to be hear from 400 meters away that wont matter. For me it sucks because im a bit of an audiophile

if you like a car that feels and sound like a race car every day, this one's for you. It's beautifully noisy and handles like it's on rails. Hitting that vtec is just awesome :)
I've had mine for 2 weeks and loving it.
It's completely the opposite to what I'm used to with a Silvia S15 where it's comfy, tons of low end with a good exhaust but abit wobbly with standard suspension. The DC2R is rough and noisy ...and really need to rev it for it to be very quick ...and the steering is heavy like a go-kart.
For modding though I find that it will cost alot more to get more power compared to a turbo car ie. money spent vs power increase.

As Joey99 said - I agree. A ITR is not everyones cup of tea, but if you have tastes like Joey said then this is a car for you. Its one of a kind.
Door trims are very easy to remove. After you do it the first time its easy as.
And as Zilli said about a sound system. And don't get a big system to weigh down a light car - Get a VTIR then.
