View Full Version : My ALLMOTOR Obsession - B18c built in process

Phamburger

I've alway been a ALLMOTOR fan and after so much reading and searching around all the honda forums. I've decide it was time to finish part one of the car.

After a long wait for this to happen, I finally manage to get the person I wanted to work on this setup.

The Car is basically a B18c bottom and B16a Head "poor man type R". Other work has been done to the motor previously.

I'll release more of the setup once its up and running. Will take approximately 1-2 week for the work to be completed.

Thanks to DynoDave for taking on the project, Barefootbonzai and JDMyard for their help with the items and Bennjamin for helping prep the car :).

Here some pictures of what its going into and whats going in.

Hey guys

Thanks for the kind words. Atm its just a waiting game for everything to be put together. I've always wanted ITB (USDM influence) and i finally got the chance to snap one up.

Now just the process of headwork, ITB and tuning. Once all that in place we're looking good :).

Cheers

Very nice Dave! I was very impressed when I got a ride in your car and that was so long ago (and mistakenly thought it was a B20VTEC because of how hard she pulled). I can't wait to see what a beast she will turn out to be once you get her tuned.

Porting was done......

But when it was inspected it wasn't to standard to run the equipment i have in place. I.E Quads etc.

Thus a overall of the headwork will be looked at in more depth :).

what do you mean by "wasn't to standard"?
do you mean you just have to do some match porting to the ITB's? or that the port job was no good.
And whos opinion might this be?

The feels awesome, sounds awesome and runs awesome. No more problems with the motor unlike the original first stage.

What so great abt it atm is that its UNTUNED (no dyno tune just street tune) yet it feel ten time better than what i left it at. Geebuzz can't wait till its on the dyno and fully running hot :). I can finally feel midrange pull with the headwork and ITB

Yes you'll need to find cable gearbox, cable flywheel, Aftermarket mount, wiring, and etc. the list goes on. Your best option is to get a CRX or EF halfcut with a b16a in it from japan

Nah not full rebuilt :P. Jimmeh did a good job with the bottom end. As mention b4 the headwork that was done with jimmeh built wasn't gonna be fit for the new application (quads) thus the head to be reworked.

The end result, from people feedback is the headwork by DynoDave was TOP STUFF :). The quads work very well with that combo... plus the amazing fact is the car STILL UNTUNED.

Regards,
David

P.S i'm happy with the result as it stands. With a proper tune (mention so many times now) she will run awesome.

Times dont mean nothing without comparable weights or suspension do they??

Alot of cars with decent times out there havnt got good power in the scheme of things.

This looks like a stout 2ltr so i have an interest in what it produces in the end as im interested in any good builds, props to Pham and and Dave as its obvious Pham is more then happy with the end product which is all we can ask for when forking out our hard earned cash .

Slap this bad boy on a dyno, set it to disney watts, and come back and post. Don't forget some kill stories too, 6 car lengths FTW!

Who cares about dyno figures. They are irrelevant. Its like saying my motor make 150kw but only runs 13's.

As jdmtypeR stated, dyno figures varies from dyno to dyno and is not an accurate comparison between cars performance. Its only a good tuning tool.

Running the car down the 1/4 mile will be a good indication even if you get a slow time, the MPH SHOULD reflect the cars performance. We all have no doubt that this is a 12sec car when tuned.

What Benson stated I totally agree with. Different dyno, Different days for tuning etc etc will earn you a different result.

I'm purely want my car to be tuned because its running abit too rich for my liking, also it will just allow the package to run alot smooth. With the tune it just straighten everything out in the motor .

Down the 1/4 from what i've seen... Is where people walk the walk not just talk the talk.

I claim no times atm, this car prolly just a 14 car for all i know. Nothing is determine yet...

One thing is for sure though, I'm loving the way she drives and handle atm . Props to the people involved with her latest work :).

I saw the headwork on this head as i helped place it on top of the block.
Let me tell you it was a good port job...... I'm sick of people dissing this engine build. it made 130 odd kw! nothing wrong with that especially for davids budget.

More like 130 disneywatts. I drove this car on the old setup, it had major problems with detonation, and it was not quick. Seat of the pants was about the same as my 14.2 Integra. That ain't worth 10k or whatever was initially paid...

As for the porting, there were still casting marks on the left and right hand sides of the ports, it didn't look like there was much porting done to this head at all. It looks like it had a flatwheel run through it.

And lets not forget that the screen between the vtec solenoid and the cylinder head was FULL with silastic. I'm amazed that the car managed to get into vtec.
$10k?? I'd be upset.

Ah well, Dave is happy now... probably best leave it at that.

Maybe there's a good reason y he doesn't stick up for those who put his engine together orginally. Probably the same reason y he took it else where when deciding on going ITB's. Go figure.

hi guys... stop fighting

no point speculating what a car does on the dyno...
do it prove it! and the rest will shut up...
looking at the forumns; people really dont know what a good head port job is.

i have also heard heaps of people promising this car got 200kw, promising that got 300kw.. end of the day do the 1/4 times and show it... like they say solid MPH!!!

DO it and the critics will shut up...
btw good luck with the build...
