removing Aircon from ek

Well EM1 anyway. but yeah pretty keen to remove the aircon system from my car. looking for a DIY or something. Problably wouldn't be too difficult but looking for some help befor a i start.

I will provide you with a few links however do not listen to them when they say just vent the gas out of sight. It is illegal for two reasons 1. It damages the environment! 2. It is toxic!

looking at the pics in that 1st link zdster posted, im suprised to see no ones tried re-routing the cooler that warm air is pushed through to get cooled(top right of pic below), and installed it into the engines intake tract for an ultra cool air intake. Would be interesting to see what happens. That thing must get pretty damn cold to cool a car so quick on the hot summer days here.

Yeah it gets cold when the air going through it is a little fan. When you have a 1600cc air pump pushing though it, it'll take a far more power hungry refrigeration system than the stock one to cool anything.

Now take into account the fact that a good refrigeration system might be say 55% efficient. You're an engineering student, I don't think I need to say anymore.

just get the gas taken out at any workshop - then get a few sockets and spanners ranging from size 8 thru to size 17 and thats pretty much all you need. A couple of hours later and you are ac free.

its pretty simple.. what u see, just remove..
compressor, condensor, piping...

The main thing is proabably not only the weight of the air con, but also the system train... just remove the belts and see how u like it first.

its 10x harder to put back than remove

for me,only way that helps is aircon on high..

the heat works very well but takes a few minutes...

but if it rains on a hot/humid day ur ****ed ...lol
just gotta crank up the fan
but u should get a visor so u can open the window a bit

Fog forms on a cold surface relative to the air in contact with it. So long as the surface of the glass is the same temperature as the air, it doesn't matter what you use, hot or cold.

if you guys have taken out your AC - on wet humid days bring a small handtowel in your car to wipe the windshield as it fogs up ! ALSO DONT touch your inner windshield ! Clean the inside and outside often :)
