Has anyone had a go at re-trimming seats? Can it be that hard? Is there any DIY's around for me to look at? I think I am going to try... mum said she can help with the material part of it lol.

Mad! good to see you're having a try. I've always lived with rips and tears by using seat covers, would be great to rejuvenate old seats with new material, maybe even leather.

From watching better homes and garden and that Mexican from pimp my ride, it seems the seat foam is measured and the material is cut into pieces and temporarily pinned and test fitted. Then it gets stitched from the inside and then turn inside out before installing it over the seat - Thats what I've gathered anyway, could be wrong though because everything on tv looks easier than it really is.

Tell us how you go

I guess if ur game enough you could get your old seat, take off the material and seperate it from its seems and cut out new material to match it sew it together and fit it.. =P but easier said than done.. good luck! write up a D.I.Y while your at it! im sure there will be plenty of pq points for u

I did that to my gearstick booth. Even though i cut it up exactly, it still ended up about 2cm shorter. I used vinyl to make it, and it's pretty hard to work with because it's so thick. Leather would be good because it's thinner but it's more expensive

yeah its not easy lol the sewing is that hardest bit cause thatll make the difference in how much it pulls or gives to one side..

on the contrary you could always get a furniture re trimmer to do your car seats theyre usually cheaper

As stated above already, they do measure it with foam and cut that out first because they re-pad the old foam usually there all worn and lop sided..

i wouldnt recommend you try this on ur actually seats,
its like a blind man going thru a field of mine bombs.

i would suggest u to try retrimming little plastic console bits in ur car first,
if u know the tecunquie its a breeze..
