hey guys

just installed shift linkages in the dc2r

the butterfly one and the big donut one

after i changed it. the gearchanging is more precise.
but the thing is the gearstick still moves to freely.

when under the car. theres 2 links

one woobles and one is stiff as.

the one that woobles is the one that connected to the gear stick and box..

does anyone know why is woobles so much?

because its loose at either end ?
Check the linkage is connected to the bush at the far end (near the actual gearstick ) - it connects to a rubber rectangular bush and 2 12mm bolts. Make sure the end is sitting inside this bush and that it isnt worn

what is a butterfly one & big donut one?

get back under ur car & grab the link that wobbles & see which bush in the link has too much free play in it.

i found the first vertical bushing closest to the gear box was the culprit in mine,my mechanic offered to get a brass bushing machined up for it which would of done the job for a reasonable price but i found a bit of 5/16" fuel hose fit in well(after drilling it out a little to fit the bolt thru) as a replacement bushing & did a marvelous job in stiffening it up but mine prob wont last as long as a brass one,but hey,it cost me nothing & is still workin 6 months later.

do you have a short shifter?

for some reason my shifter had heaps of freeplay when i installed a buddyclub shortshifter.

recently i replaced the buddy club with the stock one and the freeplay is almost non-existant

then again, i could've just installed the buddyclub one incorrectly

just a thought.

Same problem here.

I Put a DC2R shift linkage in my car (EK4) with Energy Suspension bushings. Lots of play and the gear stick vibrates like mad.

yup thats the bush on the linkage end ( the long one with 2 holes)
It looks OK , perhaps the eng of the balancer shaft was out of the hole or the bolts holding it to the body were loose. Problem fixed ?
