Hey everybody! I've got a custom fuel pressure regulator installed on my '89 teg. Its lately been having a bit of trouble starting, as it will start, but then as soon as i tap the accelerator, the car dies and i have to wait a couple of minutes before the car will start again (kind of as if ive slightly flooded the engine). Just wondering if anyone knows at what psi/kgcm2 that the fuel pressure should be at or if something else could be causing this? And if it would be worth hunting down a stock regulator (as this one was already installed when i got the car) Heres a pic of the engine bay (the regulator is up the top right with the yellow fuel line going to it)

why is ur fuel pressure regulator all the way over there? mines right next to the intake mani, kinda here-

i got a B&M one, u should also look into getting a fuel pressure gauge, i got one in my engine bay, ur mechanic should kno how to properly tune it, i installed it and i didnt have the Fuel pressure gauge and i had cams and i DIDNT want it to be lean, so i put it on max (not recommended) but i didnt wanna drive lean, but when i took my car to be tuned they fixed it for me.

as someone once said to me, be careful with fuel man, fire, leaning out, tonnes of bad things can happen if not properly done!

You shouldn't have touched the old fpr at all without a fuel pressure gauge, let alone install an adjustable one. You're lucky the car even runs... Get a gauge! Try yonas at jdm yard and if he doesn't have a gauge, you can buy the one you need off ebay.

once you've adjusted your fpr for best drivablity, 30psi-40psi vac connected. if you've already had the car dyno tuned. You'll need to get it re-tuned.

Let us know how you go M8

usually you would use the FPR with a piggy back or stand alone type ECU which you can adjust the air/fuel and ignition mixtures with.

you are definitely running too rich meaning you have too much fuel and not enough spark or air to cause proper combustion.

i would best recommend the following.

Take out the spark plugs and see if they are black (a cause of too much fuel in the combustion chamber or they just getting old) and if they good either "gap" them or upgrade to iridiums

You can choose to invest in a Piggy back (like a greddy emanage or a SAFC) to have the ability to tune your air/fuel mixture a little better (if your planning on forcing more fuel through)

Download the correect fuel pressure reading for the DA9 online and take it to a mechanic to have it reconfigured/readjusted (he will have a gauge, dont waste your money) if you plan to force more in get a piggy back and upgrade your sparkies

Remember : try not to wind the FPR yourself as you may cause the motor to run too lean or too rich causing detonation of your engine.
