Hi,
i have a problem with my integra VTiR. I cannot feel VTEC kicks in even i "floor" the accelerator till 7k RPM......coz i reckon when VTEC kicks in...there will be a different "roar" from the engine room right? So how do i know if my B18C working properly? Can u guys give me some idea? Btw, my DC2 is a used car that has done ~200kms, bought it last month. thx in advance.

Have you checked your oil level?

your vtec kicks in at 6000rpms. the change is not qiute as noticable as other vtec engine due to the runners that Vtir's have which kick in at 4500rpm. if you cant notice a difference in sound then you prolly want to get it checked out out by a proffesional or something. may be Hanny's can look it for you. they'll definitely tell you if you have a problem.
good luck with your quest:P

You have a whole engine room? Cool.

There is a whole thread on performance measures that is stickied in this forum. Have a read through that.

VTEC in VTiR integra is at 4400rpm,runner change is at 5750rpm.

It is testament to the honda engineers that they can change over your cam profile in an instant & u not feel or hear any change. If there is a large change then u have problems or aftermarket intake/exhaust.

U will hardly notice the VTEC change,so dont worry,u will most likely be able to detect the runner change more.

wats the technical difference between the 4400rpm and the 5750rpm changes?

I can hear a difference in the change from normal to vtec in my car... after 6k rpm is just crazy! I feel power difference and noise (can hear the vtec work :P) I have a Type R though which may account for a difference.

4400rpm is the change in cam profile. 5750rpm is the change in the dual runners of the intake plenum where the butterflies open to allow more airflow.

In any case, make sure you warm up your engine before you step on the accelerator! You can try removing the top cover of the filter enclosure to hear a louder 'roar' or induction noise. You should be able to hear the change in engine sound easily when VTEC kicks in. You might lose a little power though with the cover removed due to heat soak :)

You have to say "yo" everytime you want vtec to kick in otherwise it doesn't work, geez dont you noob honda drives know anything. :p

hehehehe... LOL@yO comment!

Check your oil levels man, or better yet change your oil.
CRXer: VTEC is more progressive with B16A2 motors, and B18C (Vti-r motors), kind of like the k20's. Every B18C7, B18C2 and B16B motor I felt you can feel the VTEC kick in (yO), and you can hear it. I guess that's the difference between type R's.
