Hello all. Question about rev limiter.
I just installed an Injen sri this morning on my 2000 Accord 4cyl sedan 4sp A/T. Awesome sound I should say. I can also feel the difference in an instant. On my way to work, was flooring it constantly and most of times shifting (manually) from 1st to 2nd at 6.3k rpm. I know for a fact that rpm cuts off at 6.5k rpm because I tested it already so before it cuts off, it's a good idea I shift to prevent the limiter from cutting off. If I just leave it at D4, it shifts at 6k rpm when you floor it and this is just normal.
PROBLEM: Got at work and parked the car and was revving it just to hear the awesome sound it produce. I actually want to test the cut off again but in my dismay, it's now cutting off at 5k RPM!
Is this normal when parked or there is something I should worry about? I never experienced this problem before. Is it sucking too much air that's why its cutting off earlier? And how come when I was on the road, it didn't cut off on me even at 6.3k rpm?
ADVANCE THANK YOU FOR THE HELP OR INFO FROM ANYONE

Quite possible that it has a lower cutoff while in park. I wouldn't get too worried until you test again while driving.

When your car is in neutral or park, the rev limit is lower.

Went for a test drive and it's all back to normal.
As aaronng said, park and neutral sets the rev limiter lower.
Thanks all for your reply.

Probably designed like that to save the box in case someone decides to throw it into D while revving it in neutral.

I rev it while in Park and not in neutral. As suggested by JasonGilholme, someone evil might decide to whack it into D. I don't know if that makes a difference and I'm not sure that ECU-MAN meant that not to rev that high in general while in neutral.
It's a one off try for me anyway and I'll never do it again. I just did it out of curiosity. Trying to figure out some things about my car I guess.
Anyway, what will happen if you rev too much on neutral all the time? Is it as bad as redlining it when in 1st gear?

Revving it without load is not healthy for the engine because of the high acceleration of the internal components.

it is much safer to rev it in 1st gear than in park to redline
Park and Neutral are the same thing, you can damage your engine revving it like that with no load.

I agree ^^^^
Reving high without load is not doing your motor any good. Hence the 5k limiter.
