Ok, so i want to re-do the interior on little civic while she sits in my driveway till July.
I want to do it all myself... and don't really have that much cash to spend for the next 2 months, so im gonna start with the basics...

I have a few questions as to what is possible...
- I've heard about some kind of PAINT that i can spray onto vinyl? Can I spray my dash etc a Darker Grey or Black? The existing Light Grey doesn't really look too good and its monotonous.

- I also want to change the colour of the hard plastic interior mould things especially around the back hatch....

- I can do all the door cloth trim and in the back etc, done it b4.

- Can you recover the existing seats in leather? My dad used to be an Auto trimmer and is now an upholsterer so he knows a lot about chairs lol...

- The carpet is the ugly bit that really gets on my nerves... Its stained heaps bad and has faded bits and a few cuts etc for god knows what reason. Can i get a new one or MAKE a new one? Like stretch the carpet to the shape of the floor? Will also look into doing this for the boot too.

- Much later on im looking at hooking an Xbox360 up to an LCD mounted in the back of the rear seat and maybe dual LCDS in the headrests... Has anyone done this? (Dont laugh, i'm serious, we did it with an old normal tv and ps2 in the back of a van a few years ago)

I'll extend on the 360 idea if anyone thinks it has merit...

But yeah.. if anyone has any ideas on how i can get ANY of this done i will love you forever lol...

I can speak from experience with a can of paint or vinyl spray, if it's in a place get's regular contact with other things it wears off before too long and when it's scratched it looks really trashy, I learnt that with my last car, just too much hassle and upkeep IMO :)

For the carpet, go to Lincraft or somewhere similar and get polyester dye powder. Should be in a little tin about the size of a 20c piece. Just mix one of these with hot water to fill one of those spray mist bottles, along with a handful of salt.
This will make a solid, concentrated dye for your carpet. Spray it on freshly vacuumed carpet, allow to dry (i.e. you can rub it with your fingers and the dye wont come off) and then repeat. You can speed up the process by leaving the windows down in the sun, and use of a hairdrier, but shouldn't take too long.

That's how I brought my dodgy faded carpet back to black

yeah paint will fade and wear.
What kinda colour u lookin @? If your goin for black....maybe consider DC2/DC2r dash and carpet conversion.....

And if ur gonna retrim seats...I reckon u should just buy sum racing seats. If you do retrim in leather...its usually bit harder to sell than a gd set of racing seats.

there's a company that makes pre-molded carpet to suit any car.. check some car mags for it. I found one on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Quality-Moulded-Car-Carpet-Honda-Integra-1986-2001_W0QQitemZ180113761147QQihZ008QQcategoryZ10233 7QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) but you might need to cut the holes urself...

That'd be knox auto carpets, right?
I saw some of their carpet in SKREMN's old car, looked nice and plush but didn't sit exactly right on the corners in some parts. Bunched up etc. And yeah, you'd have to remove your seats, seatbelts etc and cut holes to fit.
That's why I much preferred just using dye. Don't paint the carpet like some people do as this will leave you it with a gross, hard, spikey texture.

Why not just take your carpet out and paint it
I took mine out and got a black one out of a EG9 from danny (cheers mate) and it wasn't than much of a hassle to do.

Painting your dash, yes it's possible, we did it in my EG8 because the kid i sold it to wanted a white dash so for $80 bux we got 3 cans of vinyl paint and a can of clear coat, looks good at the moment, but as everyone said it chips easy, i did it on 3 places while fitting it back in. Also don't be lazy and take the dash out when/if you do it, it's only 6 bolts

Painting plastic (boot area) is easy just prepare it properly and seal it (clearcoat) it at the end.

And yes you can re-trim your seats but i haven't done it, i've seen some good jobs and some absolutely horrible ones where the stiching fell appart after 2 days.

Xbox-TV - i say yes, but that's just me, i love little gadgets. Got 2 9" in my visors and am looking at putting some in the headrests and some in the boot :p

Good luck with the project mate

Thanks guys :-)

I might be gettin a little ahead of myself... but when browsing ebay i came across an auction for the machining files for Suicide doors!? They reckon you can take them to any metalwork factory and they will make them up for you...

Has anyone done it? or how much is it to get a normal suicide conversion????

Personally I don't think the suicide doors really suit cars without big, fat exteriors. Unmodified civics/integras in particular. But if it's gonna make you happy, price will depend on the quality of the kit and installation. These two things will affect the appearance, lifespan, structural integrity and ease of use. Some kits are either too hard to put up or pull down, or just fall when unexpected.
Look into the legality of it as well. Just some things to keep in mind.

Vinyl Spray! Im not a fan. My Skyine has a white vinyl sprayed dash and centre console... Some parts look really good! Although the lid for the centre console (directly under the sunroof) is all cracked, the aircon vents are slowly getting little bubbles (the heat must lift the coating!). If you consider what and where you are funna spray theyn it could be a good idea. I ended up covering my centre console lid in white leather (dad's a trimmer). If your existing dash is black maybe you could get away with leaving the aircon vents black, or remove them and take them somewhere that will do it properly as long as they can match it with the vinyl spray.

You can recover existing seats... You need to remove the current cloth tho. When taking the cloth off, dont just rip and tear it off - try keep it as intact aws you can. Once its off unpick the seems - that way you can use it as a template for cutting the new cloth. What are you going to recover them in?

Carpet is a big job. You need to get everything outta the car!!! Again use the existing carpet as a template for the new stuff.

lol Atm the only interior component in my car is the dash... The rest of its in the shed lol, so getting the carpet out isnt a problem :-D

Re-covering the seats in imitation leather or real leather if the budget stretches...

So you guys have sprayed Black or Grey dashes with WHITE vinyl spray? Wheres the best place to buy it from?

How the hell do I get the dash out! I've unbolted everything but it only moves like, 2cm out, and how the hell do i get it over the steering wheel?!

hahaha, dash is easy to take out man.

Ok, firstly take off the glove box (once you open it there are 4 bolts down the bottom, 2 of those also hold the dash in). Take off the center console looking thing in front of the shifter (has the ash tray in it and the little pocket, you can now see a 12mm bolt pretty much bang in the middle). I assume you've taken off the cluster and the vents???? There is one 12mm right in the middle of the dash behind the top center vent (when you pull it out you can see it, just pry it off slowly) and there are 2 more 12mm one on either side of the dash, once you open the door you can see little square pop it off and there's a bolt behind them, and you're done :p

Just be careful when you disconnect the AC, i found it easier to take the whole thing out with the dash, there is a wire plug and a steel cable, unplug the plug and slowly pull the steel cable off, can't stuff it up man. If you need more help let me know

Sh1t lol i didnt take the cluster off first... wheres the aircon?

And when i took the carpet out, i found a box about the size of a pack of a4 paper on the passenger side near the wheel arches, bolted to the side.. What is it?????

Boban
13-05-2007, 06:53 PM
the box is your ecu, leave that there. Hmmmm air con, above your headunit???? usually :p take that out with the dash and there is a plug and a cable 4 it.

Take off the vents (one on drivers side and 2 in the middle, the big black piece infront of the cluster and take off and unplug the cluster and that's pretty much all the wiring in one loom, appart from the ac one
