All,

HI I am new to the forum, I am wondering where I would find a roof repair shop in Melbourne good at fixin S2K roofs.

Mine is an 01 which doesnt look like it has been taken care of by the previous owner and has some dodgy repair jobs on it. Need to get it sorted before winter settles in..!!!

Advice is muchly appreciated.

I recently changed my roof, on my 01, to a glass robbins top. My OEM roof is 100% perfect on the vinyl has been treated since new with Mothers protectant, and the window is in very good condition, cleaned with Mothers Plastic Cleaner. I will be posting it on ebay, if you want it let me know.

heres the damage, seems to be on the folding point.

When I bought the car it originally had a bit of noise when on the freeway, I replaced the striker assembly (the braket which connects the roof to the top of the windscreen). The noise is all gone, just creeping through these areas at the corner of the roof.

you can get them from :honda: direct. I just went to the spares department and had the salesperson look the part up and order.
I think the part number is the same for left and right, so you need to order 2..:D

I got the parts from :honda: in two days, took about 20 min to replace, only 2 bolts on each striker assy. You have to remove the interior moulding which the interior light is connected to get it off, obviously put the roof down too:p

Price from :honda: without any discount was about $170-190

I did see hardtopguy.com sells them also, but the delivery times would be quite a bit longer. They were US $49 each i think.

I must say it was quite suprising how much difference this had on the road noise. Before I had my radio(standard) distorting so I could hear it and now its crystal..!!

awesome thanks for the info, i'll have to get onto it when i get my car back from the garage. Hope it fixes the problem as i didn't wanna have to replace all the rubber seals.

try using some black silicon to cover it up, though not the best look, but sure will keep water from coming in.

i think i'm gonna go with a Robbins also, well, after i get some wheels. Their page quotes 10hrs install! is that realistic? i work away and when i return home i'm generally time poor.

does anyone have a link to the site for ordering the robbins top..?

Ferrari
10-05-2007, 10:25 AM
I ordered through ebay, via topsonline.

I got the roof for $807 AUD due to the great exchange rate. I did the install myself, took around 13 hours, but there where breaks, plus I didnt rush the install.
It is a major project, and if your not mechanically skilled dont touch it. Labour would cost you around $60-70 p/h most places would take around 10 hours to do it, do factor that in.

Read your thread and saw great pics on s2ki..!! Looks great..!! Are the instructions provided of any use at all..?? This looks like a much better choice thna buying a second hand one..and glass window, did you get a defroster kit for that..?

MRK-01
10-05-2007, 04:55 PM
What model is better..? HV Denim or Stayfast Canvass..? is there a difference for OZ climates..?

Ferrari
10-05-2007, 10:12 PM
Instructions are worthless, I went Stayfast, its not worth the extra cost IMO.

MRK-01
13-05-2007, 06:17 PM
yeah robbins top will be put on order soon.

all together delivery and glass window (non demistor) is $875 in Aussie dollars. Then will cost a pizza and beers with mates around to swap it out..!!:D :D

Was it difficult to get the interior out/back in..? Or is it straight forward replacement..?

Ferrari
15-05-2007, 01:05 PM
Its not the easiset of jobs, so id only do it, if your mechanically inclined and have the time to have the car off the road for atleast 1-2 days.

MRK-01
16-05-2007, 07:59 PM
true, not something you should rush through doing.....so will take my time...not rushin this, just wouldnt mind finding info on best way to remove old roof, then reverse engineer it from that....

MRK-01
21-05-2007, 05:03 PM
All found out info from topsonline. they have two different roof types...below is from their customer service people...

the HV Denim is the same exact material used on Honda from factory, the stayfast canvas is more cotton base and feels little more like cloth material, it's the same material used on BMW, Mercedes & Corvette tops.

I will be going for the stayfast canvass type, will show pics when i get it done. few weeks away from doing it tho

well some kind soul decided my plastic window looked better with a nice 10cm slash through the middle of it so i'll be joining you in a few weeks when i get sum $$$.

Convinced the old man to help with the install as he's pretty good with this type of thing. not looking forward to flying spanners when something goes wrong though :P

from what i have found, if you do the replacment yourself, it will be just under $1000. The two different fabrics topsonline offer are about $50 dollars different.

The stayfast type is the more expensive one. I am waiting on a response from them on the difference in weight and this fabric could possibly be thicker and rub against the frame of the car when you put the roof down....not wanting that with a new roof...

I will be ordering mine within the week, will advise if there are any differnces in the two fabric weoghts etc etc....

Anyone with experience wanna assist..?

Go to topsonline.com they got them there, US based but deliver anywhere.

A contact in Mebourne to get the roof done is a guy called Gary Blackman in Burnley/Richmond. Does all leather, interior, convertible repairs etc..etc...expensive but worth it.

done the first half, got the old roof off..!! Now i gotta see if i can get the new one on just as easy..!!

Nup.....Roll bars CD, the whole shooting match had to come out....:thumbdwn:

The robbins top does not have the same cutout as the OEM one. Also not enough rivets. Part two is on the way....

This is going to be one of my next steps.... Get in and take advantage of the current $USD exchange rate.

MRK-01
06-08-2007, 10:47 PM
Was more work than i first thought. I did most of it on my own, needed assistance when doing the rivets and getting rear section of the roof onto the frame. Once this was done i didnt need to worry about damaging the glass, etc, etc....
More rivets were required, along with washers when riveting into the rear section where the roof connects to the rain rail...

The fabric is much better along with the glass rear is great, but now i am considering tinting it as headlights are damn bright..:cool:

the instructions i received are useless, so make sure you download the full service manual for inforation and backup...

Sori, i only have pics of the roof off.
