Just wanted to know you had like say an EK4 and you blew up your engine and got another engine from an EM1 to put in the EK chassis. Would you still need to get an engineers certificate of approval? And what if you had to get the car registered?

One says yes, one says no. Have you done this or know of anyone who's done this before? I'm quite stuck here.

Same capacity or +15% ..No engineers cert needed.

The new engine that you use to replace your blown one has to be NEWER than your car.

just wondering how this can be proved...say on imported engines for example? can you tell from the engine number usually? i'd thought it was the vin that would have the actual info, so if the engine came in on its own...

that's what i thought, but when i made an enquiry through the RTA "technical support line" the old dude on the line seemed to think otherwise.

"if the engines from a different car, different model, whatever, you'd need an engineers certificate!" seemed to be quite adamant. not sure if he was just talking out of his ... or what though

hmmm

just tell them its the same engine and its out of the same type of car just newer.

I don't think they need to know any details of the donor car do they???

its a larger capacity engine though, and different engine number...i did say it was newer...

apparently from what i've heard so far, to register, you'd need a receipt with details of the seller, but no details of the donor car.

but im thinking, if this is the case, then how would the rta know that the engine is newer? do they just take your word for it i guess?

Sorry guys I should've been more specific. My car is an EG6 - Imported. The engine blew up so I sourced out another engine from an Ek4. Since the engine is newer then it's alright isn't it?

all fine in that case. just need to change the engine number over on your registration. no engineers cert needed as its the same displacement. motor is from an ek4 so its newer than your eg6 so no problems there.

should just need the papers for the ek4 engine saying you own it who u bought it from etc then take it to the RTA. but of course. go down to ur motor registry and check to be sure
