At first, you have to prepare a 2Towel and Metal Polish
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb244/qdc2r/DSC00416.jpg
Use one towel to clean the surface probably.
Then you use the metal polish to clean the headlight. Remember, clean it with hard(use your power lol), do not clean it like a weak boy.~O~
After that, u will be successful to make your light like a brand new one.
I have done it successfully with my car.
Before

After

This pic is after polished and it is not with the cover.(it take pic from my carpark, so the backgroud is different.)
P.S--This pic is for the guys dont believe in me. You guys can see the difference now. lol Thx

Only Do this if your headlights are badly yellowing as you remove the last of the UV protection when you polish them and will have to continue to polish them often.

the best way to restore your headlight is to sandpaper it with 400, 800, 1200 grid sand paper, until it smooths, after that spray paint it with 2-3 layer of clear coat or gloss enamel or clear acrylic. I did this with my old teg ls, and my teg vtir.
here is the pic:

once you polish it, is it a good idea to put a clear coat over it so you dont have to polish it often?

I tried doing mine with the sand paper as I had a few scratches on the lens. Didnt work out too good. Lens ended up really foggy...even with using the finest grit sandpaper at then end then polishing. Reckon i could buy the autosol and it will clear it up? Any idea if you can buy headlight lens' by themself??

did you wet sand it? wet sanding is important as it will smooth out the lights, rather then dry sand paper, start from rough then move to fine. Then using a polishing clothing, apply about 10cent coin amount on the cloth, spread it over the lights, next thing you would do is keep rubbing the cloth hard, you will eventually melt rough layer away. Remember to change to a clean part of the towel and rub hard, until you see a clear coat shine through.
btw it'll dull up after you wet sand it, it doesn't matter, as long as the lens is clear, you can then apply polish and start polishing it

yeah did exactly that, might go get some more wet sand paper and use a finer grit. used autosol but not much luck.

i had 800, 1200, 1500 grit sand paper, worked pretty well. However i did noticed that the 1500 was harder to grip. Post up a pic of your lights. I used cut and polish from polyglaze to buff it up

You can use meguiars plastix for the final shine, but I didn't bother, every now and then just use cut and polish to remove the yellow effect, I just used normal cut and polish as it was readily available

Nice, just remember that eventually we need to replace the lights, as mine is getting old, cracks are forming on the inside, nothing you can do really, but oh well, it's a cheap fix for the time being

Add a light coat of wax after you've polished it, it will slow down the oxidation process.

Heres a little trick I picked up
For plastic headlights
Grab a rag and some toothpaste. Put some toothpaste and rub like a mofo, do it like 2 times and wash it, should come out nicely
slimx
23-02-2010, 01:26 PM
toothpaste burns oil.. it would depend on the damage.

20-07-2011, 03:49 PM
^Yeah, use toothpaste as it is water based and will wash off easily.
I know guy's that have used metal polish, Brasso, Silvo, etc and they are all oil based which eventually will effect and yellow the plastic.

or you can spend about $20 when the proper headlight restoration kits are on sale.
