civic antannae

i went to turn on my car this morning and i heard a grinding noise from the back but didnt know what it was. later on i realised that when i turn off my car the antannae doesnt go up when i turn on the car and come down when i turn it off. so its stuck up all the time. when i turn on/off the car, i can hear the motor for the antannae still working but it does nothing. seems like it has disconnected from the antannae or something. does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it? i know i should go to an auto electrical place but has anyone had this problem before and if so, how did you fix it? i just dont want to get and get ripped of for something that takes like 2 secs to do thats all.

most probably your antenna mast.
common problem on the older hondas.
the teeth on it, is probably rooted.
or if its snapped, your gonna have to take the motor out and try fix it.
just replace the mast, or take our the mast first.

i am a complete noob on this antannae stuff, what is the mast? how much will it cost roughly? get it from honda parts? easy DIY?

the mast is the the chrome retractable thing (which is really the antenna). u can replace it, maybe parts from ebay. Check out the link below about the civic's antenna and the mast.

try autobarn/supercheap or the like to see if they sell it or can order it for u. might cost an arm and a leg if coming from Honda (OEM).

i got the antenna off ebay. its the same as the one in the link in the previous post. i had a good look at it today and the base of the new antenna is slightly different to the old one. the plastic cover at the bottom is a different shape and therefore i didnt try and install it because i dont want to find out that it doesnt fit and have to put the old one in again. has anyone used these after market ones before? does it actually fit? i think the one i have is a harada antenna. my current antenna has a base more like a cylinder than a flat oval shape. help?

easy solution, the only way to find out is to actually have a look yourself. u wont have to take the old antenna off, just open up your boot, take the lining off and see if it'll fit. not sure that your new antenna looks like. :thumbsup:

ok, i tried to replace the antenna today. i undid a couple of screws etc, u think i got into the motor part or something. its the top bit, looks a bit like a coil. anyways, i couldn't get the antenna bit out, i couldn't work it out. i also unplugged a cable but plugged it back in again but now when i turn on and off the car, the motor doesnt even make a noise like it used to. i dont know what i am doin.......anyone in brisbane able to help? i'm thinking of changing my antenna...is there anything else better that i can change it to? something smaller? i also have a screw at the top of my rear window, i dont know what its for. but its similar to the things the taxis have in their back windows. i heard its used to get reception for in car phones or something. is there anyway i can turn it into an antenna?

If you've got the same antenna as the one in the ebay link then I think it's the wrong one. AFAIK ek sedans all came with auto antenna's, the one in the link is a manual one.

yeh i got the one in the link....dammit. does destruckshn always have them available?
