Has anyone here done a conversion of a 1.8 Vtec into the 1988 crx. I've got a b16a in mine at the moment and it only just makes it under the bonnet, and i also know that the B18c's are a much taller engine??? can it be done with out getting a custom bonnet

I'm quessing might have a vtec bonnet to start with?? do you know if they do or not??

I've got a stardard d16a bonnet, which i had to cut the hell out of hehe to make it close proberly.

I think the vtec bonnets have heaps more room, but i can't find any, i've only found carbon fibre ones and they cost heaps

you know the normal bonnet, the will have to cut directly oppostive the leads cover.. you will have to shed a bit of metal of the bonnet off. its pretty easy to do and if you dont cut it, the head and the spark plug cover will be scratched.

A couple of 10mm shims in the bonnet hinges,a couple of bits of bonnet webbing cut out,yeh it fits.........only just

A couple of 10mm shims in the bonnet hinges

1. thats defectable
2. its dangerous if you raise the bonnet above the hooks that catch the bonnet in an accident.

if you did what you are proposing your bonnet would go through your windshield and decapitate you during a crash.

to fit a B18C in a CRX you either need to use a SIR front end(bonnet, headlights, front bar) from a JDM CRX.
or you need to cut the bonnet supports.

HASPORT mounts are adjustable and supposedly you cant fit the B18C without the need for a SIR front end or cutting the bonnet. but these are a lot more expensive than the ONLINE or other available mounts.

i got an imported 88 crx si EF7. also thinking of b18c or b16a swap. do i need sir front cut as well for b18c swap then?
my next Q is, how much difference in terms of power atw for b18c and b16a(2) swap.

b18 will be the better engine, it has more torque and will respond better to mods
ie the b18 will always have more power, if the same mods were done on both engines

What hooks that catch the bonnet???

I mean in the rear hinges,so i guess everybody with a raised bonnet at the rear should be expecting a defect?

My HASPORT mounts arent adjustable, which my B18C sits on under my AUSDM bonnet, which doesnt fit unless u raise the rear & cut some webbing, guess I'm gonna loose my head in that accident then ...........

B16 and B18 engine heights are idential I believe, its just the stroke and bore that is different.

If your B16A fits then B18C will fit.

Hasport has made two types of Brackets for the B-series engines in a CRX. Originally they made them in a way which made the motor sit a little too high creating bonnet clearances. About 3yrs ago they revised the design and made the engine sit a touch lower making the clearance much better with no mods to the bonnet etc.

P72 B18C is a little taller than the B16A

Hasport actually revised their design to give greater ground clearance in recent years,I know, my hasports are only 1 year old.

ok spoke to a guy in Adleaide a while ago he had a new school CIVIC front, headlights and bonnet, he recons it makes soooo much more room, or you could just but a new bonnet for $500 from a bodykit place

thanks guys for your help, the car has a standard ozzy bonnet with the mound over the timing belt, i've cut the webbing out over the engine, and i have raised the bonnet at the back about 10 mm, and it still hit this weekend when i was racing. I didn't use a engine mount kit though... so that might be the problem, my engine might be sitting higher than it should be..
