the carbyz have pistons in them that get seized in the barrels causing the engine to run rich. I usually put off the piston covers one at a time and clean out the piston and its bore with carby cleaner. make sure the piston can freely move in and out of its barrel and bore, replace the o ring if its thrashed, and thats pretty much it.

Black smoke = fuel so nothing really to wory about.

compression test will tell you a bit about your rings. like Toby said black smoke if excessive fuel being burnt ( rich ) not oil being burnt.

there aresome dirty tricks you could do for a temporary fix but I wont go there, engine rebuild or exchange engine would be the way to go for a long term fix.

If your motor is stuffed it will be a perfect time to do a B16 conversion
