Hi

Just wondering how much would I be looking at spending for a new clutch and timing belt in my 1992 CRX??
I have never had to replace these before... my car has 137000kms and dont think the timing belt has been done :(

b series hd clutch ~$320
b series timing belt ~$80
labour ~$300-500 depending where you go
just guestimates, don't take them as quotes
labour is whats expensive in this case

Get a new flywheel while you're at it.

You'll feel a nice difference ;)

I'm guessing it'll be around $800 for both installed (?) if timeing belt is $390 installed and that's a good 3 hour job then the clutch would cost a lot more in labour costs as you would need to drop the sub frame, gearbox machine flywheel

i agree with the numbers stated above

but depending on brand of clutch, it may be more expensive

also i think labour will be more than $500 in some cases, get lots of quotes

IMO

dont bother with the flywheel

it just gets the revs up quicker

u may find the car slightly more difficult to drive

i also think with a lightened flywheel, u could lose a bit of torque? as the heavier stock fly wheel has more inertia?

can som1 confirm?

get a flywheel, the crx flywheel is the heaviest flywheel out of the bseries range.
lol.
some places charge $600 just to change the clutch alone.
start getting qoutes i guess, if you were in sydney, it would of been good.
lol.

You don't really loose/gain power/torque from the flywheel change.

it just shifts the power band and changes the characteristics of the car.

Still street drivable (depending on how light you go)

no difference in torque, the weight of the flywheel has nothing to do with power numbers
just gets you up to the powerband faster and drops revs quicker because of the weight of the flywheel
the inertia just makes the revs more fluid and less on/off than a lightweight one

Just in your opinion. But the fact is a lighter flywheel will make a car harder to drive .A flywheel is weighted in a way to make the driving experience as easy as possible. BTW a lighter flywheel dose NOT decrease (or increase) torque. At the same RPMs the flywheel will be holding the same power/torque. It will simply raise and drop revs quicker than a normal flywheel.

Anyway in answer to your questions - yes around $300 + 80 for the parts and around $400-500 for labour.

yeah got mine done recently

Timing belt - $70 Labour $200
Clutch - $380 Labour $350

depending on what parts your using. A cheap flywheel is the ITR flywheel, which would be lighter, just check if it needs machining. You can pick on up for less than $100 depending on who's selling
