**** me dude.
lol.
flush your system, like completely flush it out.
it's either that, or your oil is mixing, is it a milky colour?
is it thick or still thin?
to flush it, take off your top and bottom hoses, and run water through the top inlet where your top hose goes, then, do it at the bottom those goes on the cylinder head.
but you have to take out your thermostat. when you do it.
also, do it when your car running, for a better result.
and see how that goes.

Distilled/purified water would be best. Tap water can carode parts (which could be what has already happened)

yes, but flushing all of it, with normal water to get all the rust out, and the contaminants.
JasonGilholme
18-05-2007, 10:09 AM
Yeah but could flushing it with tap water cause damage to any parts of the water pump etc???
or isn't it in there long enough to worry?

agree with above.
Either you have heaps of rust or you've blown a seal and oil is mixing in with the coolant.
Rust - the water is a copper colour and there is usually powdery residue
Oil - its a muchky brown colour and it looks like it doesn't mix
Rust - Flush out (usually 2-3 times) and run good OEM coolant ( I use Toyota coolan)
Oil - unless your good with an engine your gonna need to take it to someone.

flushing with tap water is fine. The only reason that you don't use it to mix coolant is that the impurities react with the coolant. When you flush nearly all the water goes out. Not gonna have enough in your system to worry you.

if it's oil, then your gonna have to see where it's coming from, mopre than likely a head gasket.
rust, is no good, becuase once it's been contiminated, it ain't good really.
lol.
don't forget to also flush out the radiator.
also, when you flush it, make sure your heater tap is OPEN.
so your turn your temp control to HOT.

sounds like coolant = not good lix or old. Over days the coolant has sedimented , and the rust / gunk is sitting in the top while the coolant is sitting lower down below. If you drive the car , it will mix around again and go a greenish colour again id say.
Still not good to have it like this should flush.

Imo there isnt really that much to rust in an all alloy block anyway. Thermostat and pump blades, but iv never seen them rust.

looks like either the coolant is too old or you've mixed it with too much water.
Flush out the system and put new coolant in. Then drive it around and if it still does the same thing then there's a problem
bennjamin

its orange at the top, because over the day or two of non-use the coolant in the reservoir has sedimented. That is , the crap is floating at the top and the actual coolant has dropped down.
If you mix the liquid in the resevoir , it will go "green" again and after a few days will return to the colour you have now.
Just take the container out, empty and refill to the "FILL" line with good premixed coolant
