it all depends on wear and tear.....i know ppl who have never had to replace theirs while i know of others that once they hit 110k they had to.....its all sorta depends.....im pretty sure its been covered on here before....
i did a quick search but yeh i u could prolly find more info..

the myth on autos braking down is bull hehe
no one has one that has completely failed or is damaged so it carnt be driven..... usa models have diff bearings compared to aus ;)

don't abuse it and will be fine
members on pa have 200km on engine / transmissions and its fine

keep changing fluids and it will last :)

yeah.. mine was 98 and got 130k on it and still has no problem on it..

it will be ok as long as u don't hit vtech too often and change the fluid (every 20,000kms is suggested).

the 00-01 usdm model have problem with bearing and needle.. harsh shift from 3rd to 4th gear... got one case in australia.. the bearing failed but it has been replaced under warranty

Many people said there is a problem with 97-98 audm auto tranny.. so for peace of mind it's better to have 99+ prelude with auto tranny :)

like i said there can be failures like any car but not on the so much note they all are shit.

97-01 are all same and nothing has been chanced expect sum part numbers , bearings and needle rollers are same ;)

Very costly (up to 8k) to rebuild a tiptronic box!

I know that most of the tiptronic boxes in cars made in 1997 had the major problems.

SX16 your a lucky one!

And who cares if it has been thrashed, i'm sure the engineers at Honda didn't make the engine redline at 8000rpm if the box wasn't made to handle it.

Just change the gear oil every 10,000km.

Not really that costly..
I heard hannys in syd can do it for less than 2.5k
I also got a quote from hondwreck in melb for 2.5k
You can buy a new box with 8k.. it costs you 8 to 10k :)

Yep change the gear oil every 10,000 or 20,000.

yeah not costly , like any other auto but you got to watch out who builds it

pple that did it already and know what they doing only :)
