hi my sump plug keeps turning on the spot, can't be tightened and can only get it finger tight if that. my question is I know it can be rethreaded but how much and what is the process? Requires sump completely off? I need my car tomorrow for a trip no longer than 5-10km and not sure if it can last the journey to a workshop. Please any ideas?

i wouldve recommended sum thread locker or silicone but theres going to be oil everywhere

i dont think its a good idea to drive it until you can retap it, and then youll need to find a bolt to suit, might be a little hard...

I'm going to silicon the edges of the sump for now and get it fixed tomorrow but need to drive to the workshop which is about 5-10 minutes from my house. Hopefully that will hold it. Right now it isn't going too tight still can drip a little oil out at it's tightest point.

problem solved! for future references or anyone currently having the same problem as I did you need to re-tap the thread and will need a new sump bolt of a larger thread size.

duh =)

its better to source a new sump plug bolt first...then retap it to suit that...not the other way around

yeah I had to retap to a larger thread size which meant my funky ass sump bolt is going to sit in the spare parts for a while. Plus side is I scored a non genuine new sump bolt and a free genuine Honda sump bolt and I paid nothing :D Life is great with connections.

yeah if it ever gets damaged again I'm going to buy a new one preferrbale baffled from a trader or something, lesson learnt don't over tension sump bolts.
I was so scared driving to the shop today, doing 40 in an 80 zone and always watching the rear view and side mirrors for any sign of oil. Thank god it made it.

yeah the guy that did it for me used a little flexible magnet to get into the sump and pick up any shavings.
Yeah Honda sump thread is weak, I made sure to start the bolt by finger and then tighten with a spanner, that was a bad night I was throwing my supercheap spanner at the wall and swearing at the car :p
