Compelling project
Honda engineers have descended on a workshop adjacent to the Nürburgring with an interesting mule. The car has remained in the garage bay all day, but we managed a few snapshots that reveal a compelling project in the works.
The primary donor for this mule appears to be a Honda S2000 roadster, but it is very heavily modified with riveted panels to add plenty of length and width. The passenger compartment is much larger, and the hood line is severely bulging.
It's difficult to tell the actual size of this mule, but it appears that the dimensions of this car could be consistent with the next NXS supercar, which might finally be entering some form of engineering reality. When the car finally leaves the garage and sees the light of day, we'll have a better idea of what this mule actually represents.
Stay tuned, as our cameras are trained on the facility, awaiting the prototype's unofficial debut.

More Honda NSX Mule On Track
Day 2 at Nurburgring
We recently posted some spy photos of the alleged new Honda NSX mule snapped yesterday at Nürburgring, and today, after an arduous day of preparation, Honda engineers have finally hit the race track again.
Seeing this prototype in the light of day reveals proportions consistent with Acura's Advanced Sports Car Concept, which debuted at the '07 North American International Auto show. The S2000-based outer shell used on this mule doesn't exactly correspond to the show car, but it may provide clues as to the direction Honda is traveling with the next NSX.
From these photos we can see the diagonally stacked exhaust tips on this mule, which looks similar to the concept. The mule's large central air-intake in the front bumper fascia also suggests that the production NSX could use a very different styling, when compared to the concept, which had no center grille and only two smaller openings where the fog lamps reside. With the luke warm reception at Detroit, the design transition from concept to production is expected to involve significant styling changes.
The expansive hood on this mule definitely looks large enough to handle a V-8 or V-10 engine as per the concept.
