Hi all, well this isnt the first time ive retrimed my car so here it is,
just to help you guys out
firstly i trimed my interior white back then because i was very into show cars,
then it became to dirty looks awsome tho.
neways heres how it looked before;
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/1691/img2010hc2.jpg
http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/589/dsc00001gg6.jpg
then it started dirty & i could never be bothered to clean it -__-"
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/2303/dsc00002rb5.jpg
Firstly, cut a big piece of material out, to suit your trim, some people trace there old trim etc, to be honest thats just a waste of time,
just cut a hole in the middle and anywhere else that has an opening.
slowly apply the contact bond adhesive glue and spread it around the insides of the door first, then slowly flow it outwards.
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/96/dsc00003gr3.jpg
flow the material into the crease's, if you find that you get a bubble use the hair dryers / heat gun to heat it up then slowly strech it out until the shape forms.
http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/4022/dsc00004ux7.jpg
By now you should be up to the corners, use the hair dryer / heat gun to heat it up and slowly stretch around corners and cut slits where needed.
http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/2530/dsc00007ss2.jpg
use your superglue or contact bont to stick down the rest of the trim from the back. remember to pull and strech the material or it will lift after a amount of time.
http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/8154/dsc00005nh5.jpg
With the repeated steps, ive done the Arm rest, my two pillars and my glove box.
http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/3296/dsc00006fn6.jpg
Final result;
http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/4619/dsc00002vt0.jpg
Sorry for the undetailed trimming lesson, im serzly very lazy to type more then this atm..

Would love to do my pillars in the del. Everything else is black but the pillars are grey and so is the roof.
What type of material did ya use specifically?? Does it look similiar to the OEM when installed cause i'd want it to match the dash otherwise i won't do it lol.
gotta look "like the shit" - not "like shit"

24-05-2007, 04:04 PM
i used black vinyl from spotlight, one for 15 bux a metre and one for 20 bux.
i went with the cheaper one ..
diffrence between both is the expensive one is more soft and easyer to shape tho the hair dryer did the trick ;)

I trimmed the doors in my old car myself using contact adhesive and its terrible, hardly works, i ended up ripping it all apart and starting again with super glue, if it starts peeling or coming off then its going to look shit, lesson learnt, do it right the first time.
Tune2look, very keen to see the write up for the ek, not a fan of the colour of the interior on ek1s, going to do my pillars while im at it.
Great DIY.

magic contact adhesive, its about $10 for a large tin at k-mart, more than enough for two door trims. but do be careful when using it as it does not dry clear. but its the bomb!!! works very well!

contact glue/adhesive you can get from hardware stores they should have it in either tube or tins, just make sure you spread it out evenly to give a good finish and follow the instructions on tin/tube
