Hi guys,
Just need to confirm what exactly should I need done. I've heard that stamp duty is approximately $100 for each $1000 you spend, but I'm not 100% sure. Can somebody advise me on roadworthy prices too. Would be much appreciated!

you are in VIC so contact VICROADS.
Otherwise below is the information straight from their website
Fees
The transfer fees payable are:
motor vehicle (cars and truck) - $29.60
motor cycles - $5.20
trailers - $5.20Motor vehicle duty is the tax payable when a vehicle is registered or transferred to another registered operator. The amount payable is based on the purchase price or the price which could be obtained in the open market (whichever is greater).
Motor vehicle duty payable is $8 for every $200 (or part thereof) of the market value.
So , 8/200 = 4% :as said above.

Thanks for the quick replies.
So stamp duty/roadworthy/double check..
That's all I need?
Is there anything I should be particularly looking for?
Get your mechanic to look at it first, no matter what the person says

When you say first do you mean before he sees his mechanic? He's going to a get RACV check as well as a roadworthy so I'm quite happy with that. Then again if the mech he goes to gives a roadworthy and then my mech finds that it isn't roadworthy, the onus is on the first mechanic to fix it or face heavy penalties anyhow...
I mean before you buy it... Better to get your mechanic to look at it right before you purchase the car

you might also want to get the ViN number and engine number checked by vicroads just to give you peace of mind knowing that after you purchase the car it won't be towed away from your driveway by debt collectors or the police. it's a fairly new car but best to be on the safe side.
