Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone has experienced the lack of bass from their speakers? I'm not sure whats wrong with my car setup as i recently bought it.. Even after changing to a better set of speakers, it seems that the speakers are not getting the bass signals from the HU.. Advice anyone?

1. If there is any signal at all getting to the speakers then it probably isnt a fault in the wiring or headunit, since your headunit doesnt have a crossover, it cant magically erase part of the signal.

what that means is that there are three possibilities:

1) the bass is turned down on your headunit equalizer

2) your headunit doesnt put out a very good signal

3) the speakers you have arent very good

There is however one other option, which is that you simply have unrealistic expectations.

the best thing to do is to test the speakers, using output from something else - your computer for example, and test the headunit with other speakers.

with 6' speakers, unless youve paid a lot of money, you arent going to get a particularly bass-y sound.

I agree with Mr_will, maybe ur expectation is too high :p 6" is not designed for bass, its more for mid range tone and clarity. You want a 6x9 or even a sub for bass..

it could be the + and - on one side of the speaker is incorrectly plugged.
it causes the bass to cancel out with the other side

Maybe i'll try the speakers with a different HU for starters.. i dont think that pioneer makes 6 x 9 speakers that have totally no bass right? Cos the bass is totally missing.. and im getting my bass from my door speakers.. so pathetic.. :(

ohh and btw.. i dont think i could've mixed them up..cos the pins on the speakers are of different sizes and they wont fix if i swap them..

was there bass when u had stock rear speakers? have u played around with the HU functions like fader, bass, etc? yeh so if you're getting sound from your rears, then like mr_will said it shouldnt just delete the bass especially if you have a 6x9 that is normally designed to bring out bass. im sure that Pioneer doesnt make a 6x9 weak enough not to bring out bass. how many watts RMS is it anyway? I have Fusion 3-way with 75watts RMS and bass is good. so yours shouldn't be any different. dunno with this one

Yeah i have.. But its quite funny.. Cos once i shift the output ot the back.. the sound comes out with good treble but no bass.. thats the funny thing.. i upgraded to a 7 x 10 300W max set of speakers with huge magnets.. I thought they'd do better than the poineers.. but its still the same.. :(

running off an amp or head unit?

id say check the polatiry of the speaker wiring, if one is out of phase you aint gonna get the midbass your expecting plus if you wanted bass why didnt you go for a sub? anyway.....

im running from the HU, and instaling a sub means less boot space.. I need the boot space to transport stuff and boot space is precious in a hatch.. :p

im running from the HU

There's your problem.

For great midbass do the following:

1.Amp those speakers
2.Ensure correct polarity
3.Ensure that the speakers are held in properly, and on mdf spacers
4.Are the speakers venting into the door cavity?
5.Sound deaden the doors

Mid bass galore.

You should have bass in your speakers, it's called mid-bass.

There is sub-bass and there is mid-bass, sub-bass is the doof doof... the low frequencies that cause vibrations (although some mid-bass woofers are berserk...).

So if your speakers don't produce any mid bass then how can you blend in the the sub with the rest of the speakers? If a sub is for low frequencies and speaker are for high range only, what fills in the midrange?

Have a read of the articles posted by ICACHA, I havn't read through all of it yet but so far it looks like a good read.

I've always made it a criteria when looking at new speakers, well at least ever since i learnt more about audio... lol

.. and im getting my bass from my door speakers..

I think we're missing the point here guys. he's saying that he's getting more bass from his door speakers instead of rears. something's gotta be wrong somewhere as 6x9s should produce mid-range bass (and definitely more bass than the fronts as they would only be 6" or similar). and yes, get a sub if u want big bass, however it seems like there clearly is a problem with his rear speakers.

int3gra_r: can u tell us exactly what

1. HU u got (make, model) and also
2. what rear speakers u got exactly (make, model, wattage in RMS if possible - 2 way? 3 way? 4 way?)
3. are your front speakers stockies?
4. and were u getting any bass when u had your rear stocks?

Hey guys.. HU model: Clarion DB346MP
Rear Speakers at the moment: Unknown Brand 7"x10" 3 Way 300W Max Speakers
Previous Rear Speakers: Pioneer TS-A69606 6"x9" 3 Way 240W Max Speakers
Front Speakers are stock.. Its producing the bass at the moment.. Lousy quality though.
I never had the stock rear speakers as I recently bought the car with the pioneers inside..
Btw. I've tried to swap the polarities.. But it still doesn't seem to be producing the sound i'm looking for..

ok ok. so i just wanna know, did u have bass before in your rears before u bought new ones?

the Pioneer rears should have been ok with your HU and it should produce mid-range bass (looking at the specs)

1. Is there a filter (equaliser) in the H/U menu that only passes low or high frequencies that may have been accidentally changed? (Put the Pioneers back in and see if the problem is the same)

2. If you use speaker cable that's too long and thin, this could attenuate the low frequencies (that's y i wanted to know if your old rears has the bass because it doesnt make sense).

maybe take it to a specialist and get them to have a look.

It was the same with the pioneers.. thats why i bought the other set.. I dont see a filter in the HU menu as well.. Maybe i'll take them to a specialist.. Anyone knows a cheap one in melbourne city area?
