Baro sensor "Barometric" also known as PA "Pressure Air" Sensor. The Baro sensor is commonly located in the ECU, however on some pre OBD0 cars ( mainly A20A4 engines here in Ozland) its located under the glove box. The ECU uses the Baro to measure Altitude based on Air density to help calculate/correct fuel ratio.


Aim:

Diagnose code 13.

Required:

Basic Testing

- Digital Multi Meter
- paper clip







Symptoms

For a faulty Baro sensor to trigger code 13, you will more than likely get the engine light come on and the car will go into limp mode, Limp mode is a preset fuel and ignition map running on a backup processor in the ECU. Limited to about 3500rpm and a rich mixture to protect the engine the engine will run, but not the best. Common cause for code 13 is a faulty Baro or open circuit in the wiring back to the ECU. If you have a modified ECU, the Baro could be enabled in the ROM but not present in the ECU.




Test



OBDI, OBDIIa, OBDIIb Baro is located in the ECU and is not a serviceable item. REPLACE ECU. ( or disable the BARO in the ROM if you have OBDI )
