the 19s are back on! sale fell through :( so, gonna be saving up for a camber kit for the rear wheels.

so far ive gotten a quote from 999 on the skunk2 rear camber kit, which is about $550 just for the kit on its own and $750 for the kit, including installation and wheel allignment.
has anyone has ever installed one themselves, and if its worth paying the extra for labour and allignment etc or better to diy?

ekdez

thats a rip for camber kit. i wouldnt pay much more then 400 for one.

spray them black :D

got a Q.. so today i drove my girlfriend to uni and when i went to take her back home from her exam i noticed that my front left tyre was considerably less inflated than all other tyres. i drove to the nearest petrol station and pumped up the tyre again...
it was fine for the next few hours, but on my way back home at about 11pm i decided just to pull over to a petrol station and check tyre pressure... and the front left was at about 24psi.. well below what it should be...

so this is probably a puncture or sumthin? im riding 19s and wondering where i go from here. can they easily just patch the tyre if it is a puncture, or is it more likely that i need to by a whole new tyre?

JOhnnyFD
17-06-2009, 11:56 PM
what tyres u on?

did u find any puncture holes? if so u can easily patch it up with tyre rubber cement and filler.. u can buy that from any car store.

if not, there could maybe b a crack along the tyre wall surface

ekdez
18-06-2009, 12:03 AM
your not going to have any air in it tomorrow by the sounds of it LOL..
probs ran over some building equipment.. eg a nail or some shrappers or debris
happens all the time..
if its a nail or something a tire place will just fill it up with a plug.
if you have a gash on your tire wall or something on the wall u will need a new tire.

i had the same problem with my 20s, you need a new tyre

its also funny cos, it happened to my left front tyre too haha

its cos the tyres are stretched too much and the seal breaks off, or sumshit like that

back to stockies ftw!

well after a full 24 hours, on my way home again i went to check my tyre pressure, and it was the same as all the other 3 three wheels. i've no clue if it will slowly deflate again or not. ill have to keep a check on it..

btw my tyres arent stretched. i read ur thread and u were on 225 tyres, whereas im on 235s for all 4 wheels. ill just keep a close eye on it for now to see how it plays out.

Stig
18-06-2009, 11:55 PM
hmm 235 shouldnt even deflate at all, that should be enough give for it to strech... well with my one it started going flat overnight, pissed the hell outta me

ekdez
19-06-2009, 12:12 AM
im running a 225 on a 9" rim.
no problems yet.
i want to get a 215 lol... stretch fit ftw!
just have to stretch the right tire otherwise it will cost $$$

ohh, wow they dont look 18 lol. prob cz ur car is slammd a lil bit

aero
19-06-2009, 06:28 PM
hey dez, how's the rear wheels coping with the coilovers? still scraping with weight at the back? how does it cope with a full load, heavy boot or 2 people in the back?

ekdez
19-06-2009, 10:42 PM
not fully slammed yet..
looking to lower the front another 2.5 - 3 inches
and the rear about 1.5 inches

but no, not scrubbing much.. i have my rear coils on +12 hardness on the n+ i like it stiff.

its just on HARD turning the tread will touch the lip of our fender.. but its only the tread which does nothing.. like the part where the tread ends and turns into the wall of the tire. so imagine these are a wheels []-[] on the top edges on the outside..

ill take a picture one day and show u.

a little hard to explain..

just remember +45 offset your not going to have such a concave look, like in that picture

.k.
10-07-2009, 04:45 PM
^^ +1.. maybe try in 18 too to help fill up the guards if you arent going to dump it. And +45 isn't that stock offset? who knows how much you need to bring the wheel upto the guard area? i've test fitted +37 and that was ok but sticking a bit out.. mayb 38/39/40?

black8thgen
10-07-2009, 04:55 PM
nah dez is talking about the concavity of the wheel, like how the middle sticks in deep and the spokes have a sweet inner curve to them, looks damn hot, but yeah 45 offset will bring the center closer to the lip if im not mistaken

edmbranch
10-07-2009, 05:08 PM
hey stig that would be a good set of rims for better cornering, i presume there's a reason for getting bucket seats..

here's what +45 of my rims look at the moment:

Stig
10-07-2009, 05:09 PM
LOL yeah i just worked out the pricing of the 17x7.5+45 advan rg2 and it came roughtly to 3.4k, i thought it was 2.4k... so thats why i was thinking about it.
the 18's are like 3.7k, was thinking of the ssr type f in 18's but with the "shit" 7.5 width and offset the civic can handle you will never be able to get that concave look while maintaining enuf tyres to use those rims to go around a cnr quickly. for 4k i rather get a set of 19x8.5 work t1s.

edmbranch
10-07-2009, 05:10 PM

been to tech9tyres though. don't like it because instead of helping you they go oh i don't think it will look good on your car you should try these. we have heaps of them and the look so good blah blah blah. like why not do what the customer is asking instead of promoting a brand that you would get big profits off. the bald headed guy is up himself as well.

wont that ruin the structural integrity of the rim? rims have pressure points and are reinforced in certain parts.. arent they?

so by shaving off the inside of the rim to make it a higher offset.. u might run the risk of having an;

=> uneven surface which will make your rim sit on the axle wrong and off therefore giving you a wheel which doesnt spin straight, therefore uneven wear on your tires, remember one wheel which is off will eventually ruin the line of the other three wheels..

=> possible invisible cracks which wont be seen on inspection after the job is done, and could potentially turn into a crack and your rim break whilst driving.. pretty risky shit your dealing with dude.

btw which camber kit did you get?

i installed the skunk2 one and it didnt do shit for me LOL! and its on max setting.

ekdez

i also have a problem :(

i need new tires.. cos the ones i have atm arent stretched enuf and im scrubbing on the smallest of smallest bumps cos i lowered my car more.. but i wanna lower it MOAR!!! lol

as most of you know im running 18x8 and 18x9..

currently running 225/40 r 18 front and rear

i went to a tire shop today and they quoted me $150 each for ku31's which are pretty decent tires.. for the price..

they said.. i could run a 215/40 r18 or a 215/35 r18 on my rims front and back.. to stretch it even more..

just wanted to see if anyone reckons a 35 profile tire is too thin for the fd.. therefore making my rim look larger.. but it will look smaller in comparison to the car..

im leaning towards the 40 profile.. but im sick of the scrubbing noise LOL.

anyone running a 35 profile? lol

hmm.. it could be risky, but the guys im getting my wheels done say they've done it a bunch of times with no complaints. they could be lying, but they've done it to a few of my friends cars with no problems (i only went to them as a reference from friends).

a bit of a worry on the skunk2 camber kit tho. i was just about to order it next week. it seems like its the most available camber kit for the fd. i dont know if there are many other brands out there..
got any clue of what other types of kits are out there?

also, got some pics of the car with camber? i would like to see :D

btw, im running 235/35/r19 tyres on my car. scrubs and i dont think the tyre looks that thin at all. i think it looks fine, but ppl have seen my wheels and when i tell them they're 19s, they say "they look smaller. the tyres dont make them look like 19s" lol.

here's probly only side view pic i've got of my car. the lighting isnt that great to see the wheels, but it's all ive got for u. lol

aero dude.....is that tint street legal? haha, looks quite dark

hmm.. it could be risky, but the guys im getting my wheels done say they've done it a bunch of times with no complaints. they could be lying, but they've done it to a few of my friends cars with no problems (i only went to them as a reference from friends).

a bit of a worry on the skunk2 camber kit tho. i was just about to order it next week. it seems like its the most available camber kit for the fd. i dont know if there are many other brands out there..
got any clue of what other types of kits are out there?

also, got some pics of the car with camber? i would like to see :D

btw, im running 235/35/r19 tyres on my car. scrubs and i dont think the tyre looks that thin at all. i think it looks fine, but ppl have seen my wheels and when i tell them they're 19s, they say "they look smaller. the tyres dont make them look like 19s" lol.

here's probly only side view pic i've got of my car. the lighting isnt that great to see the wheels, but it's all ive got for u. lol

.k. and i got it done by the same guy on our FDs

anyway, ekdez, have u got any pics of the rear wheels with that camber kit? even tho u say it doesnt do anything, can u notice any difference at all? even visually? lol

.k.
13-08-2009, 11:23 AM
so you need the camber kit to change the camber to what degrees? -1/2 or not even that much?

jpestrada115
13-08-2009, 01:47 PM
it's the sidewall's height so 35mm off from the ground.. if 35mm profile

just a correction - it's actually the aspect ratio. so say you have 225/40, 40 is the aspect ratio and of course 225 is the width in mm. sidewall height = width x aspect ratio / 100. so for 225/40 = 225 x 40 / 100 = 90mm side wall height.

yeha i got 20% tints too.. no problems for about a year now.

havent got any pictures of just the rear.. well not yet.. ill grab some for you soon.

mmm.. i reckon if my rear wheel wasnt a 9" rim and it was more slammed i'd notice a difference..for now its too high and too wide LOL.. you cant fit a piece of paper between the tire and the rear guard.. thats how tight fit my tire and guard are.. but ti did help a little but i expected it to help SO much more..

the shape is a bit different so the 06-08 mugen kit will not fit onto the 09 models and vice versa. there is a specific mugen kit for 09 models ONLY. They even have 09 Type R kits

damn i can't get genesis because they don't make the sizes for FD!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. It is cheaper than normal ce28n because of the financial crisis rays made it cheaper and made the sizes most common.

* 18 x 9.5, +34, 5 x 114.3
* 18 x 9.0, +35, 5 x 114.3

i was also thinking of getting the ce28n forumla silver edition in the same offset you mentioned above. but they conflicted with the front cos its hits the coils for me, so the only offset that i could prob take is 19x8.5+29 which sticks out WAYYY too much... well way to much to get a defect :o but it will look aggressive. thats an evo offset. so now im thinking about weds sa-70 18x8+36

the place where i got my wheels put on rolled my guards for free coz my offset was +35. but it didnt help coz i still got scrubbing issues lol. which is why my wheels are currently back in the shop getting the offset machined up.
u may not want to do that tho, coz there is a risk in doing it...

so, i guess the best thing would probably be to roll ur guards (in most cases it does help), then get some stiffer suspension, like coilovers and perhaps a camber kit.

My 18 rims............

aero

just got my wheels machined up about 4mm.. so they're sitting at around +39 offset? surprisingly it has helped a lot. i was carrying my stockies in the car on the way home from the wheel shop and there was hardly any scraping noise in the back. compared to when i first had the wheels on with +35 offset, there was a big difference in the amount of scrubbing.

for the $50 i paid them to do it, id say it was a good spend. i know it will make the wheel structure slightly more fragile, but ill risk it. lol

here are my 19s after i got them back on the car. note that i am on stock suspension and the car only looks lowered because of the stock wheels inside the car and it was also parked on a slope :p

i don't gold on silver personally but each to their own

im taking a serious look at some rims with these specs:

19x8 +40

nothing insane, but i don't want any scrubbing at all.. and im on stock sussy atm.. reckon i'd have any issues whatsoever? cos .k. had 19x8 +38 i think? and he said he was scrubbing kinda badly...

so yeah any help wud be appreciated lol...

ekdez
20-09-2009, 07:05 PM
19x8 +40 is good specs.
i had 19x8 +42 before my current wheels.

the problem which people encounter is the tire size and profile..
you just gotta play around with tire sizes to find the best fit.. its expensive thats all..

black8thgen
20-09-2009, 07:06 PM
ah okay sweet. cheers =D

20-09-2009, 07:52 PM
oh yea aero.. oopsie.. LOL. my bad =D

aero
20-09-2009, 08:50 PM
lol yeah, i have 19x8.5 +35 and it was pretty bad on scrubbing with 4 or more adults in the car, so i got the offset taken up about 3-4 millimetres. the scrubbing is a lot less than before but on my current stock suspension, there is still a bit of scrubbing.

i wanna get some thinner tyre's but with a legal load rating so i dont get owned by cops. right now im on 235/35/19 and i wanna go 225s, but only 225 tyres for 19" wheels ive seen with load rating at 91Y or above and a relatively low profile are 225/40/19.. but they're not cheap.

on the plus side, i will be finally changing my suspension this week. coilovers should arrive and should be able to lower the car and ease the scrubbing issue, even if only only slightly.

then i can save for new tyres and a camber kit that can give me some good negative camber. so far i havnt heard much in fd camber kits besides skunk2 and megan racing
