I have the stock Honda 16 inch alloys with 205/?? tyres, and I find they are way wwaaaaay too small for the car. I think the offset is wrong since they actually appear to be inside the wheel arches. I was thinking of getting some wheels that fit better but dont know what to go with. Ive seen some Civics with 18s(only a estimate) on the street and it looks quite nice.

So people with post your wheel dimensions and a photo. Help a fellow Civic owner out.

I've got 18's on mine.
Don't think i would go much bigger as i've already had issues with the tyres rubbing the underside of the wheel arches.

Will post a pic later....

Hey guys i just wanted to ask, what size rim + offset looks best for fd civics? im getting mine in a few weeks time and wanna start researching and finding some nice rims. Im leaning towards Work Emotions but dunno about wat size? ie - For those on 17s for example; you guys running coilovers or lowered springs and by how much?

edit - oh and any1 have any experience with skunk2 pro S coilovers on their fd? How much can you lower it by?

cheers

Hey buzz, where'd you get those headlamp modules?

buzz
05-08-2008, 09:57 AM
Ebay

running 8000k hid

.k. 17" rims will be fine just make sure you go no wider than 9". The rim wont fill the whole guard but you should be able to dump it hard if you go a 15" or a 16".

With coilovers or springs, the question you have to ask is how much money do I have? springs are a great option if your willing to spend some time getting the right compression rate and ride height, cause most springs sag after a couple weeks. Coilovers are good they just give you more flexibility with changing settings like dampening, ride height and sometimes camber.

hope that helps :D

Im getting a 2008 honda civic VTI MY08, whats the largest rims etc I can put on comfortably without worrying about anything else. I think they come standard with 15 inch. 17inch or 19inch be ok?

.k.
05-08-2008, 02:55 PM
^^ Im in the same boat as u mr steve, im still trying to find out wat size rim looks good. I definitely want coilovers and was looking at the skunk2 pro S for civic06+ but i was watching a clip on youtube which showed that if u lower it too much u need to cut a little bit off the bumpstop becos the lower you go the less travel you have and towards the lower height settings (which i'd be using =P) there aint much travel..

any1 recommend other coilovers?

hey guys, just another question.. has anyone out there with 18" wheels find any discomfort when driving? i.e. is it really firm, bumpy etc? I'm just deciding on whether to get the 17" or the 18" in the wheels i posted before.
I got a price on just wheels and they will be roughly $1300 delivered. Is it more worth it to get dunlop tyres added for $2000 or just the wheels and get tyres fitted myself here in melb.
Thanks again to anyone that can help.

Looking for some wheel nuts/locks. So far theres Rays, Work and 5zigen. What is the difference between them? Are they pretty much the same?
As mentioned in another thread that FD wheel nuts are 12mm X 1.5". If i get offset +42, will i need to change my length (mm)?

And the PCD holes for any rim size will fit our FDs? Standardized?

cheers

erm.. normally are same depends on what material they use.. if u want a better lug nuts.. try McGard.. the BEST* lugnuts in the world.. all the good nuts are normally OEM from them..

*my opinion.. xD

erm.. offset wont affect the nuts size unless u added a spacer.. then u need to get a longer bolt for ur car..

erm.. our FD's PCD is 114.3.. =)

Shimian
22-11-2008, 12:41 AM
what i meant by PCD holes are the 5 holes that goes on the car. Sorry for the confusion. Just wondering if those 5 holes are standardized across all rims. Just want to make sure the wheel nuts/locks i buy will fit over them once on my car. So far Rays is looking good as they are the cheapest compared to the other 2

Wayne
22-11-2008, 12:45 AM
erm.. PCD is the holes size.. like 5x114.3 or 5x100.. or BMW's 5x120.. the depth of the wheels will be the offset.. so which 1 r u confusing now? =)

info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitch_Circle_Diameter#Bolt_circle

erm.. i think some McGard will be cheaper.. =)

but if u get Work Wheels.. wont u put back Work nuts? =)

Shimian
22-11-2008, 12:50 AM
yea so in our case its 5x114.3. What im unsure is that if i get nuts, will they fit into the holes or do i need to find specific wheel nuts? Im looking to get some short 12mm X 1.5".
My wheels are not works. Looking to get red nuts/locks

Wayne
22-11-2008, 12:55 AM
normally like Work nuts or Rays nuts.. customer will buy it to match their wheels as same brand.. so if you wheels is in other brand.. then search the universal lug nuts brand.. McGard.. you shall find some from eBay.. =)

yup.. our car is 5x114.3.. just follow this size.. erm.. M12x1.5 will be the size for the nuts.. another 1 would be M12x1.25.. i forgot what's the difference for this two.. but i only saw this 2 selection when u bought nuts in the market nowadays.. =)

Shimian
22-11-2008, 01:01 AM
awesome. then ill go for 12mmX1.5" short since its 1 of 2 types going around. My brand doesnt make lug nuts (not that i could find) so im going for Rays in red. Mcgard only makes them in chrome :(

thanks for the info. Looks like the color is on the tips only. So might look funny when looking from an angle. Ill probably stick with Rays as its the next cheapest thing i could find.

i know what your saying. But if you put it that way then i wont be able to get any wheel nuts. I dont want to buy a no name brand as ive read that it is heavier and scratches easily (confirm?).

Heres a site with a list of nuts

http://www.evasivemotorsports.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=L1

Choices in red are:
Muteki
Rays
Work
5zigen

So which one would you recommend? My wheel is not any of those brands. Looking for nuts/locks.

does anyone know if +35 offset will fit our FDs?

ekdez
25-11-2008, 12:22 PM
any offset will fit.
u need to worry about size and width more.. in conjunction with your offset...
if u run low offset.. u might need spacers and camber kit...

i thought u need spacer when u using high offset wheels to make the wheels come out a bit and won't touch the suspension.. correct me if im wrong.. =)

hey guys, just another question.. has anyone out there with 18" wheels find any discomfort when driving? i.e. is it really firm, bumpy etc? I'm just deciding on whether to get the 17" or the 18" in the wheels i posted before.
I got a price on just wheels and they will be roughly $1300 delivered. Is it more worth it to get dunlop tyres added for $2000 or just the wheels and get tyres fitted myself here in melb.
Thanks again to anyone that can help.

I have 18's and the ride quality hasn't changed. Go for a 225 wide tyre. The only i notice is that they grip a s**tload, but comfort wise you don't lose much at all and besides they look better.

tonz
25-11-2008, 03:12 PM
can someone provide me with like the specs of 18" rims and 19" rims that fit our FDs? like 18x7.5, 19x8 etc? just want a reasonable idea before i go ahead and ask different stores.

mine are 18 x 7.5 with maybe room for another 1" (this is based on a sport model civic...not sure if it differs in VTI and VTI-l) so you could prob go to 8-8.5" wide and still be ok, so the 19x8 should be alright.

i can't honestly say, speak to the place where you are looking at getting your wheels. They be able to test the wheel on your car before you commit to buy.

Worst case would be that if your really eager on a set of 19x9 rims you may have to get your lips rolled which the place where you get them installed should be able to do for you.

any issues with rubbing or anything? do u know if 18x9 would fit? damn it sounds fat...

ekdez
28-11-2008, 08:47 AM
yeah.. well i dunno if it happened with other people..

but my wheel "[]" ends so that the inner walls "[]-[]" is kinda really close to the shock.. and the way shocks are made to hold springs is makes me think that if i lower my car on springs its just gonna rub so the inner wall of the tire/wheel will rub on the shock..

for example.. i went over a big bump by accident the other day and my inner tire on the right hit the spring holding thingo...

i dunno if that made sense..

black8thgen
28-11-2008, 09:52 AM
Ahh, yeahh i get you. Do you reckon 18x9 would fit? or would the width definately hit the springs?

buzz
28-11-2008, 02:27 PM
na there is heaps of room in the guard wells and you can always buy spaces to make the wheels stick out more... but you will have a problem with the wheels arches scrubing like crazy, if you want to go low that is.

8.5 i reckon is the max you should go :D

black8thgen
28-11-2008, 02:55 PM
damnitt... so 18x9 is a nono? ouch. soo actually.. whats the real difference between 18x8.5 and 18x9.. does that just mean the width would be too far out? or is it something else im missing.. =/.. not experienced with this stuff at all.. yeah was planning on dropping it about 1-2 inches after getting them.

Got some Rays wheels headed my way :)

Specs are 18" x 7.5 and.... [drum roll]..... +35 offset... hopefully will be ok... should be alright, atleast at stock height... but will want to lower it at the same time.. so only balance wheels once.

Looking for lock nuts.. I get that i need 12mm x 1.5 thread thingy... but then there open/closed and whether the "seating" is rounded or flat or whatever the other way is confusing.. [sigh]

markCivicVti

noob question...looking at getting set of rims, either 17 X 7 or 18 X 8, both only available in +40 offset.

Knowing FD Civic comes in +45 offset, will the above rims hv any issues when lowered? eg: scrubbing, etc

also can offset be changed using spacers?

yeah.. thats pretty much perfect fitment. thats what i hear anyway. i think 18x9 can fit with about 45 offset too if you needed to go that wide. but just dont go past 7.5/8 to be 100% safe.

18x8 or 18x7.5 +45 will fit fine ... itz a matter of preference but imho i think 19" would be absolutely perfect ... i have 18x8 +40 which are pretty sweet but i think theyre a tad small for the car

markCivicVti

+35 offset ftw!

width 9 seems impossible for 18". rarely 18 have 9 width.
only 20 have 9, and won;t fit FD front, max 8.5

and i don't understand why, especially some indo's is very typical, they buy genuine light wheels on wrong car, and wrong purpose (just to make it look fast), but thats my opinion

true, indos with money.. but what can you do. if they got the money, why not spend it?

Wayne

double up the weight?? , make your car go slower?
the car is slow anyway LOL

i thought mugen release the first bodykit on type R,,

that black fd looks fast, do you think that car beat my commodore v6?

i mean the weight of the replica is double compare to the original ce28n.. lol..

and whats the point take the fd compare with ur commodore v6? lol..

same meaning with this.. "that commodore v6 looks fast, do you think that car beat Ferrari?" no point to compare..

and indo have alot of money that we don't have.. they can even use ASANTI wheels with rubies or diamond on their car.. lol..

all i m saying if u drive that car on the street cant even keep up at all with commodore v6, thats w**ker

also just imagine, if fd2R drive past this car and park next to it

so its not about money or not,, its soooo ricer,,

wayne,, whats the point talking about how much weight rims you need for fd like this

double weight rims or not, replica or not, who cares? that black fD car looks replica as well
tried to replica fast car,,,

hmmm they shouldnt call it "CE28N replica" on the first place... should just give them the taiwannesse brand instead... Like Lenso or other cheap rims sold here in oz was replicating big brands, but they never call it "XXX replica" or sumthing...

so u r benchmarking civic with commodore v6? lol.. thats cool man.. =)

i mean replica wheels is half cheaper than the original and the weight is double.. as i carry a 19" ce28n before at my friend's house.. it was so light.. =)

haha.. i dont think the car look rice.. as far as i know he spend all his money on original stuff.. his mugen kits is original.. maybe someone who know him can clear this statement.. =)

kptn82
15-12-2008, 05:37 PM
A person who makes unecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to):

- Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder
- Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747
- Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool
- Expensive rims that usually cost more than the car itself
- Bodykit to make the car appear lower, usually accented with chicken wire
- Clear tail lights and corner signals
- A "performace intake"- a tube that feeds cold air to their engine usually located in areas of excessive heat (behind or on top of the engine)
- Most of these riced cars (a.k.a. rice rockets or rice burners) are imports; Honda Civics, Accords, Integras, CRXs, RSXs, Del Sols Mitsubishi Eclipses, Lancers, Subaru Imprezas, however there are some domestics such as Chevrolet Caviliers, Dodge Neons, Ford Focus; small, slow, economy cars designed specifically to go slow. Please note that some Supras, Skylines, WRX's and other higher performance imports are designed to go fast, and are therfore not always considered rice. It really depends on the severity of the case.

The "ricer" attempts to make their car "performance" by adding the modifications listed above. These ricers are not confined to any one ethnic group or color, however different ethnic groups are known for certain styles.
Honda Civics with big spoilers and 4" exhaust tips are considered to be ricers.

would that mean changing ur exhaust system is considered ricer?

Any opinions on dunlop dirrezas dz101 tyres? It's cheaper than I was expecting to pay but have been offered 150 per tyre including fitting and balance etc. Tyre specs are 215/40/18.

Opinions? Anyone running them? I've searched here and it seems most people reckon they are good for non-tracked cars.. but want to be sure they are safe enough in the wet.

T1R's are probably abit much for basic street use.

I'd recommend the kuhmos KU31's, cheap and fairly good, and i can tell you they are very good in the wet.. Very similar to the RE001's. Not too sure about the Dunlops...

Although thats my IMO.

what tyre settings do i need for 18x8 rims? and what about 18x7.5? on an fd btw.

The width of the tyre doesn't matter its just that if it gets bigger say 18x9 the tyres would be more stretched compared to a 18x7.

225/40/18 would be a good fit as i'm running 225/45/17, the profile is similar just a 0.1" difference. No scrubbing with lowered springs although that'll depend on ur own car.

black8thgen
18-12-2008, 11:15 AM

of course, noisy while driving, if stop very quite...lol
mine, kumho escta or ecstasy or ??? and got V pattern, even the mech (after installing my BBK), when i asked,
all the brakes are ok ?
- Yes, only the tyres quite noisy...LOL

but most of cheap tyres (kumho, nankang, budget, etc) are noisy except (not tried yet, but my fren say so) Nitto (same manuf with Toyo)
if u want cheap tyres and not noisy, try get straight pattern, not V, might better.

hey another wheel size question :p

http://www.capitaltyres.co.nz/Images/Mags/242.jpg

is the above wheel on 19x8.5s +45 offset with falken or hankook wheels fit FD?
got told that 19x7.5s are better but will the 8.5 scratch badly? especially with full passengers at the back.

also what brand of tyres are good? hankooks are costing $275 a pop

black8thgen
20-12-2008, 08:24 AM
i think the 8.5 will fit cos the offset is about right.. but if u can get 7.5s then go for those to be safe lol.

uhm read the past few pages, kumho KU31 anf falken f451 tyres have been recommended.

215/40

If your at that kind of price range, get the RE001's. Best tyres around that price.

oh i see. why then do people choose like 225/40 though? whats the diference between that and a 215/40?

225 just has more tyre compared to 215. Its totally up to you whether which profile you choose as each car is different.

black8thgen
21-12-2008, 07:15 PM
more tyre as in thicker going vertical or thicker going horizontal? so like wider? or taller? i guess

LD_Mart
21-12-2008, 07:48 PM
so say the rim is 18x8
so if u have 225 u will have tyre over hang the rim..
if u have 215 it will be even with the rim..

ohhhhh i see now..thanks. so it could act as a buffer from gutter rash too then ey?

hmm but how come in that pic above, it says the 225 is 0.4" taller? so wouldnt that change the diameter of the whole wheel and mess with speedo ?

Wayne
22-12-2008, 09:27 PM
yeah.. thats the exact measurement of the tyre on a wheels.. =)

black8thgen
26-12-2008, 05:06 PM
oh i see, but... one of them is larger in terms of height.. doesnt the diameter of the wheel have to be the same? otherwise the speedo reading will be off?

markCivicVti
26-12-2008, 05:35 PM
The idea is to get it as close as possible. So larger rims require tyre with lower profile (height) so that the overall rolling diameter is as close as possible to stock and hence the spedo will be almost unaffected.

Speaking of which.... getting rubber fitted on my Rays G-Games 99b tomorrow :)

black8thgen
26-12-2008, 10:11 PM

ohh, what settings u going for? and which tyres =] upload some pics when you've fitted them..and tell us if theres any issues with the offset lol =]. gl with it!

markCivicVti
27-12-2008, 12:29 AM
Cheers... yeah so the rims are 18x7.5 with +35 offset.

The tyres are Dunlop Dirrezas DZ101 in 215/40/18.

I'm not expecting any rubbing at stock height.... but with offset of +35 it should be sticking almost out of the guards... should be interesting. Getting them fitted on in 7.5 hrs... oh and its my b'day too :) so it's a bit of a gift to myself.

black8thgen
27-12-2008, 08:20 AM
ohhhh. haha happy birthday mate =]. have a good one.

but since its 7.5 with +35 offset, wouldnt that mean width of 8 with +40 offset would do the same thing? or would the increased offset prevent it from sticking out of the guards and the increased width basically not change anything?

markCivicVti
27-12-2008, 09:20 AM
