hey guys i was at protek dyno day on sat 2/6/07 and car was blowing a lot of smoke more than i expected and realised it did...........
dom reackons rings, anyways i'm getting a comp and leak down test done tomorrow night.
and just unsure of how to go about the reabuild if thats wat it needs............
originally i was thinking it has 110 ***kms so full rebuild factory specs with the headers, exhaust and intake i have and just jet an apexi power fc for it, then dom suggested the b16a pistons for higher comp and the power fc, the other option is to go all out and use toda stuff from top to bottom...........
the thing is if i was to mix and match oem honda parts with the b16a motor and my b18c i can get all the parts cheap my mate works at honda (so he hooks me up)..........
the other option is to do the bottom end the way dom said with b16a pistons and wat eva else she needs and then maybe just go biger cams, (toda)..........
any help and ideas would be greatly appreciated...........

keep in mind the car is my daily... although i only live 10mins from work, 25kms to get there and back, so fuel ecconomy isnt an issue...........

PM dynodave about engine rebuilds, he'll guide you thru want you want.

We have owned and run ITR motors for 2 year now (track and drag racing), best is to keep them stock bottom end. If you want extra power, work on the head thats where you gonna make power. BUT saying that Stock ITR motor with SIMPLE bolt-ons will be enough.*proven*

do a compression test , then a leakdown test to determine the internal condition of your engine. Could just need a service.

take your head off and do a pressure, worn valve seals do course oil to burn and then burns more on vtec...this just save u money just incase its the head that leaking and bottomend is still good..if pressure test comes back ok then u know its your rings

don't need to take your head off. go to a place where you can have a leak down test done. it's better than a compression test, it let you know where you're losing compression.

worn valve seals do course oil to burn
I think you mean stem seals?
So do the valve guides and piston rings...

i just had a comp test done last night
from the cam side to the dissy side
piston 1 - 230 psi
piston 2 - 235 psi
piston 3 - 230 psi
piston 4 - 230 psi
have to get tyhe leak down test done .......
service was done about 100km's ago.........
not sure which way to go............if the leak down test shows stuffed i will do one of the two rebuilds.
mild n/a build with about 150fwkw
or all out and use my mate garrett gt3540 700hp roller bering turbo and just change the rear wheel to a 28 or 30 so the turbo will be a gt3528 or gt3530..............

... 230psi is a pretty good pressure rating...

is this wet or dry....

hey guys i was at protek dyno day on sat 2/6/07 and car was blowing a lot of smoke

maybe it is fuel smoke?

do you guys even bother to diagnose before recomending engine rebuilds, sheesh!

130,000km's and a rebuild is pretty intense for a daily driver man.

YOu must be using a petrol + water mix

IEVAQ8

i dont know what kind of comp test it was but we used a normal comp test gauge.....
like i said the readings above are as they showed me.....
i had my uncle who is also a mechanic look at it for me and he said it is full of petrol.....running very very rich, considering i have 4-1 ans 2.5inch system with high flow cat, it is all black fuel smoke, so i just need to tune my comp to lean it out a little and hopefully make some extra power...
thanks for all your comments guys....
if anyone intewrested i will be at calder park (melbourne) on friday night (weather permiting) try and get some better times down the track with my new semi slicks........
thanks again for allyour help

once that is all sorted then it's on for tunning and then out to calder, i'll post when i'[m goin.....

doesnt need a rebuild buy the looks of the compression test...probly just needs a tune after all the mods his done

thats right, just need to have it tuned, make it run a little leaner and should be fine.
when i rebuild hopefully be next april my mate is a mechanic who will do all the striping and assembling and then swend it for tune, not sure where but that will come when the time is right..........thanks for everyones help and input

over analysis.. atleast u know your engine is fine..
also make sure u aint overfilling the oil. Overfill will blow smoke.

IEVAQ8
19-06-2007, 06:26 PM
yeh thanks i have checked an oil is always to the fuyll point and needs little top up ever month or so, i have diagnosed that the she is running a little too rich
coz of the headers and intake, and what happened is i got abrand new vafc, so once it was wired up it was running everything as stock standard.
that is the prob, cause the stock ecu retuned itself with all the mods and it was running fine but because of the vafc saying everything is stock and like new, it has caused the shit to run really rich
anyways its booked in for tune on wednesday...
27/06/07 so mi will update with the details

Good to hear the car is running well. Which dyno did you run on?

IEVAQ8
02-07-2007, 06:29 PM
it was at Rev Zone
james from Hondatech tuned it

Hub dyno

IEVAQ8
05-07-2007, 11:09 AM
yes hub dyno

yourfather
05-07-2007, 05:18 PM
hub dyno's read higher than wheels right...

Newcivic
05-07-2007, 06:15 PM
yep by 15% i think - correct me if im wrong

IEVAQ8
05-07-2007, 10:28 PM
it all depends, wheel dyno can differ each time you do your run, as each time the people tighten the straps they dont measure the torque used on the straps, there fore the tighter the car is on the rollers, the harder it is to spoin the rollers, ie less power, the looser on straps easier to turn rollers ie more power figures, its not the best theopry, but everything counts
hub dyno is prob the most accurate for tunning......my personal choice
