hey just wondering about these cars, as have been offered a black one with 71***kms for a pretty good price i think.. ok questions:

- are these rare in australia?
- quick??
- what would one in good con. with stated k's be worth on average( keep in mind everything stock)- (5 stud stock rims, stock exhaust/headers/tip, steerer, gear knob, bodywork...stock b16a2 engine, suspension...
- is there anyone on this forum with genuine ones that i can get in contact with to maybe help me with my purchase..

any replys heaps appreciated- luke-

yep B16B.

Well they would probs go for around high 10s to low 20s imo.

Just check for rust and for a proper compliance as well.

do b16a2's and b16b's both have red cam covers?? am almost 100% sure that b16a2 is stamped on the block--- what the hell... could it be u.s market version??? or replacement engine??

Luke

car has "type R" stamped on compliance plate BTW...so it's gotta be genuine right??

I dont know why you would take a step back to the B16A2. The car was only realised in Japan so there is no US market version

Luke,

what is the ENGINE block stamped?? B16B or B16A2? does it have a 'type r' cluster ? ie speedo only goes to 180km? first thing to check is the stamp on the engine block on the bottom left hand side next to the gear box. b16B is what u wanna see here. if its b16a then ask why? perhaps the owner needed a new block for some reason and rebuilt a b16a block with the b16B internals? long shot - but who knows. ask current owner.

as for red rocker cover, anyone can paint them/get them pained etc. this wont mean anything. a Red one however is a better sign than it being a black one though.

good luck and let us know.

trying checking the vin # on the rego sticker to see if it has EK9 anywhere in the numbers.

like everyone has said look for a b16b stamp on the block and check where the gearbox if u see a LSD on it. Or the car was a rebirth. And keep in mind 99 model is a facelift. Interior wise should look out for be a double din climate control.

Vin number - should say EK9 ni it somewhere. its always a risk buying imports..

if it says EK9 in the vin number its real.

If the engine says something apart from b16B its been farked with.

thanks for replies.. says ek9 in the vin.. cam cover isn't painted, colour is ingrained into the plastic.. am i making sense?? says b16a2 though- didn't check gearbox for lsd stamping.. fresh off the boat serbian mechanic scored it from repossessed cars auction.. he's unaware of the car- thought type r civics were common here.. so long story short- don't know most recent owner- fark me it's sounding dodgier by the minute-lol

The valve cover is always painted with crinkle paint, even from factory. It's not plastic. If everything checks out, I suspect that someone took the b16b out for their own use and put a b16a2 in it instead.

rocker cover can be purchased separately (as well as any other bits around the car), it may has a b16b rocker cover on a B16a block. If you saw B16a stamped on the tranny, it will be a b16a.

other thing is, check in the interior, whether it has a dimmer for the cluster or not. EK9 doesn't have a dimmer. and also the antenna for the radio. EK9 doesn't have antenna. instead being replaced by only a black plastic trim with no hole at all.

looks dodgey, mate.

answering to ur questions

- rare, but there are a few running around.
- quick!
- wth 71xxx kms, and condition as stated. low to mid 20grand is reasonable.

be sure to check as thoroughly as u can. checking vin 'ek9......' printed on chasis firewall & 'B16B' engraved on engine block is a must.

CTR will also have lots of distinct difference in terms of appearance comparing to any normal EKs in Aust.

at a glance, look for the standard CTR kit (front lip, rear lip, spoiler), check for the side & rear TypeR stickers (altho they might have been removed). since the engine seems a little suspecious as u mentioned, pay more attention to the front end. shud it had been in a front end accident, bonnet, headlights, fenders and even engine may have been replaced. so check for panel allignments. check for CTR headlights (light tint of gunmetal colour).

lots have been mentioned by others wth the engine, spot the red rocker cover (tho, even if its red, still ought to check the block). oh ..spot the red strut bar too. :)

CTR as people mention should have

EK9 stamp
5 studs
B16B

if its doesnt come with B16B dont bother, better of getting VTIR EK australian delivered b16a2 and cost cheaper.

as far as what i hear

someone did use EK4 to complaince JDM EK9 in Australia in order to register it

just becareful

as if say for example in melbourne

if Vicroad found out

then you won't be able to register the car again

hope this would help

ek9 can only be brought here under a grey import isnt it?

meaning you have to own the car for a year in japan and then move to australia and bring it over.

if your mechanic imported it then be sure to find out if its a grey import. otherwise it cant be registered and can only be used for parts or track use

steve88
09-06-2007, 02:33 PM
couldnt you get around that by basically importing the b16b?

.::F[L]Y::.
09-06-2007, 02:36 PM
buy it! half the job has been done to it. if your gona buy an ek, your more than likely to try and make it look like an ek9 like some of the ppl on here. Just pull out the b16a2 and slap in a 1.8L :p
