Notice that during spirited drive, when I upshift quickly, the RPM will climb around 200-300 even with the foot off the paddle and there is a slight whooosh sound... sort of a Euro blow off sound.... :p

It's most likely the DBW causing the increased rev...

Whooosh sound is probably from the intake...

Yup, it's bad programming of the DBW. Happens to the USDM Civic Si, and after many complaints, Honda issued a new ECU flash that fixes this problem. New Hondata reflashes also fixes this.

If honda issue a fix on this, imagine the FC... we will get even better FC

Isn't the increase 200-300 rpm is there for emission compliance (burning off excess fuel???)

I'm sure I read this somewhere from this forum.

Yeah me too.the slight over rev is a bit of a nuisance but you do get used to it.

Yeah I had that too. It makes interesting noise although it's very brief. I don't quite mind about it.

Its not really a nuisance.... at first I thought something is wrong, then after observing it for sometime I think its probably the intake or over-rev issue.

I think most people wouldnt even notice it.

What about those with modified intakes does it get louder?

What exactly is DBW? I have noticed this sound recently in my car, my fuel consumption is pretty average atm, so I might look into this at my next service.

Drive by wire, electronic throttle,no cable for accellerator.

Its for emissions. The ECU sparks up the excess fuel in the engine after you lift off the accelerator.

I dont think it has anything to do with DBW though - you wouldnt want additional fuel going into the engine when the left over fuel is burning. Unless DBW is used to push the excess fuel out from the rails into the engine or something.

take_no_prisoners, the fuel consumption is bad on new cars because the engine is wearing in. but if the car has done over 150,000km, then you need to use a higher gear and lower revs to save fuel.

My car is by no means new nor old, but I'm just trying to gt it under 10L/100 for my wallet's sake! :p

I love that little sound. I've come to think of it as my baby trying to be tuff. http://www.themixingbowl.org/image/smilies/yes.gif
